Will You Run?

Thursday, ‎July ‎28, ‎2022

Good morning, Lord

Verse of the Day: Hebrews 12:1

Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,

Memory verse: Romans 12:1: Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship.

Today's reading: PSALM 46-48 ACTS 28

Which Race Will You Run?

There are many great leaders we will never hear of; they will never run for office. Why? They have sin in the past that the opposition will dig and find and broadcast. Sin that has been forgiven because these people recognized it, repented and moved on. They have married and become successful in their areas-they know who they are and what they can do-but they will never drag their families through all that turmoil.

There are baseball players who played through the 'steroid' era and tested dirty-after they set records-they will never be in the hall of fame. There are some who say the drugs should be ignored and these players honored. They are 'good citizens' now...

We tell our grandchildren to behave in school because whatever is recorded follows them in their record for the duration of their education. I hope we tell them to behave because it is the right thing to do-because they remember-we all remember.

There are people who laugh at all this as they have learned to crush the opposition while making billions and are honored by their peers because crushing the opposition-ruining lives of many-has become the rule of business.(i.e box stores over family businesses...)

What race do you run? What race will you run? What difference will your race make in a million years in eternity?

Hebrews 12:1

Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.

What race? The race that is set before us by God Himself is the only race that will make a difference in eternity. It is the only race where we have a divine guide that teaches us not just to lay aside every weight, our baggage of past sin and learned behaviors, but how to lay aside every weight. God's word is full of this instruction.

It is the only race that teaches us victory and allows us to know victory before the race is over. Knowing Christ Jesus makes us victorious.

Do you have things hanging over your head that the world uses to keep you down? Read Romans 8:31-39

...33 Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34 Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.

...37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Is there any way you can imagine letting go of the past? Christ has come to set the captives free-you and me-not just from sin but from the sin long ago-all sin, past, present, future. If you feel a foot on your neck, maybe for decades now, it does not have to stay there. Jesus came to save you and remove all the weight on your life. If you know Jesus, the only way you feel weight is because you allow it. Repent of that control(your allowing it to go on) and let Jesus set you free from it.

Galatians 5:1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

...because He loves us...

Father in Heaven,

Forgive me for not allowing Your victory in my life. Have mercy on me and lead me in Your race-the race You choose for me.

Just and merciful Father in Heaven,

In the name of Christ Jesus,

Amen
