Good morning, Lord

Father in Heaven, I seek You first-the knowledge of Your kingdom and Your righteousness. Fill my consciousness constantly and complete Your joy in me as I take up my cross and follow...In Jesus' name…

Memory verse: John 15:10

10 If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love.

Verse of the day: Psalm 10-12 Acts 19:1-20

To Become An Infant

“Truly I tell you,” He said, “unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 18:3

Jesus gives us a command to become infants. The reason that I say infants is that is one way it is translated from the Greek.

An infant is just before what we call the ‘terrible two’s’. This is when a child trusts completely and does not worry-about anything. That is not the way they think. All they know is hunger and thirst and they let this be known. They also know joy and pain. They are happy or they are crying. They don’t even think about when they are sleepy, they just fall asleep. I carried my son in a backpack while I mowed and he would sleep through most of it.

I mentioned ‘infant’ is one way the word 'children' is translated. Another way is ‘half grown boy or girl’. These are concrete thinkers-black and white thinkers. For us, they are concrete believers. Jesus tells us that unless we become like these ‘infants’ or half-grown children’ we will never enter the Kingdom.

For me, this means that I am to never worry about food or clothing or a roof over my head-I just assume my Father has it ready for me. My faith is to be without question. God is who He says He is and so is Jesus and the Holy Spirit tells me so.

This is the way my life in Christ should be. But we must remember: Jesus speaks of the ‘spirit-born child’ and not the inner child born of the flesh and conditioned by the world.

We hear so often of how we should ‘get in touch with our inner child’. This is from the world and I say that child is always evident in our behavior-always.

Our child that must be nurtured-but not coddled. It is our job to make sure we get out of the way and let God grow us by His will but never get in the way of our child-like faith by loading our child down with worries and fears or toil and drama.

I know this is hard to wrap your heads around but then a child never wraps their head around anything-they simply rest in security and trust the source of the most love-nothing else.

Matthew 18:6, Jesus says, “...but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin…”

We as believers are little ones who believe.

Little ones are not strong or self sufficient or strong in the eyes of the world-but believe without question.

Tell God you want to be the child He wants you to be.

...because He loves us...He will do it…

Father in Heaven,

Your name is the final word. Your kingdom come and Your will be done in my Heart.

Give me today what I need to realize my ‘child’. Forgive me for striving to be more than that.

Lead me away from wickedness

God of all power,

In the name of Christ Jesus,

Amen
