What Is The Law?

Tuesday, November 19, 2024

Good morning, Lord

Father in Heaven, I seek You first-Your peace-Your knowledge and discernment. Build my trust. I take up my cross and follow...In Jesus' name...

Verse of the Day: Psalm 1:1-2

1 Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,

nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers;

2 but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.

Memory verse: Psalm 42:2(New American Bible )

"My soul thirsts for God, the living God. When can I enter and see the face of God?"

Today's reading: Ezekiel 14-15 James 2

 What Is The Law?

What are we to do with all the Old Testament or 'old covenant' laws in this 'age of grace in Christ?

The Jewish leaders tried to tap Jesus:

36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

All the law-all of the Old Testament rules are covered in these two things"

>Love God with are that You are

>Love your neighbor as yourself

In the new 'covenant'(English word), God promises to:

'I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people."(Jeremiah 31:33)

26 "I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh." (Ezekiel 36:26)

The law of God is written on our hearts. It is to be heard by the holy Spirit living in us. But-we must take up our crosses each day(Luke 9:23) and follow.

The love we have for ourselves, in Christ, will change from what we naturally feel-the self-centered love of natural man-to the Christ -centered love we receive from Him.

We learn to love what God has done and is doing in us and God gives us the capacity inside of ourselves to look outward and see with His eyes-to see our neighbor the way He sees them-to love them as we love ourselves.

We obey God's law by loving as He does.

...because He loves us...

Father in Heaven,

Your name is love above all else as is Your kingdom.

Give me what You want me to have for today's path. Forgive me my selfishness. Lead me away from loving attention.

Awesomely powerful God,

In the name of Christ Jesus,

Amen
