What Is It You Want To See?
(From Matthew, chapter 20)
Two Blind Men: "Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!"
31 The crowd rebuked them and told them to be quiet, but they shouted louder.
Two Blind Men: "Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!"
Jesus stopped and called them. 32 "What do you want me to do for you?"
Two Blind Men: 33 "Lord, we want to see."
34 Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they could see, and so they followed Him.
It is very obvious, these men wanted their eye-sight. But for us, all of us who have sight, what do we want to see? We all have the opportunity to cry out to our God all the time.
What do we want God to do for us? Or are we so tied to the world that we can not see our real needs? Have we not spent enough time in His presence to know how much we need to see things the way He sees them?
Jesus was walking down the street. The men had never encountered Jesus before that time but knew who He was and could hear the excitement of the crowds. They took advantage of the first opportunity they ever had to get the attention of the healer and what did they shout? "Lord, have mercy on us!" He singled them out and asked them personally, "What do you want me to do for you?"
With the Holy Spirit with us every minute, we do not have to wait blindly for Him to happen along-He is here all the time. He has singled you out. He looks into your soul. He sees your needs. He wants you to see into His righteousness and be aware of how you measure up to Him.
How do you measure up personally-to Jesus? Not to any earthly measure, but look at Jesus.
Jesus always wants us to look into His heart and cry out, "Lord Jesus, have mercy on me!" From 1 Peter 5:6&7 we are to humble ourselves under His hand, so, humbly we must cry out, "Have mercy on me".
Then, again, the question is, "What do you want to see?. Jesus has given us eternal, spiritual sight when He welcomed us into His kingdom and family. So, when we see ourselves compared to His righteousness, what do we want to see? We should want our 'self' to be more like Him. We should want our desire to be redirected toward Him and His heart.
We should all be humbled when we back off and take a truthful look at ourselves. There is so far to go and so much to learn...
He sees directly into our hearts and minds. We should cry out. "Lord, have mercy on us, we want to see all of You that You want us to see!"
When pain and death and suffering strike, it is not a sin to ask why; Jesus asked that from the cross. But the power of His resurrection should tell us that He has for us the power in Him to handle it all in humility and grace.
"What do I want to see?" Is that the right question? If we are following Christ to be more like Him, we should ask, "Lord, what do You want me to see?"
When pain or death strikes those around us, instead of being angry that God allowed it to happen, we should be asking, "Lord let me see what I am supposed to do here, what do I say-what can I do for them?"
We have our entire lives to be angry or to try to earn our salvation or to fix someone else or work our way to heaven-or-OR...
We can realize that there is always loving to do in the name of our Lord and in His eternal power.
John said, " He must become greater; I must become less."John 3:30
Jesus says to us, "What do you want me to do for you?"
"Lord, I want to see me become less and less and You become everything".
...because He loves us...
Father in Heaven,
Forgive me for not asking to see with Your eyes. I want to become less and less and You must become everything. Grow this desire within me.
Merciful and sweet Lord,
In Jesus' name,
Amen
