Good morning, Lord
Verse of the Day: Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy.—1 Timothy 6:17
Memory verse: Romans 8:32 ►He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?
Today's reading: DEUTERONOMY 22-24 MARK 14:1-26
Things To Enjoy
1 Timothy 6:17 Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy.
Let's unpack what this scripture says and implies:
The rich should not rub their wealth in everybody's face or inside the church make people feel like spiritual failures for not having earthly wealth.
Why?
Earthly riches are 'uncertain'-they are not eternal.
Our Living God gives us 'certain' riches or absolute riches that cannot be corrupted.
Why does God give us absolute riches? Because He wants our joy to be full and rich. He wants His joy to be ours.
John 15:11 ►I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.
Our living God's joy is not found in uncertain or 'dead' or lifeless riches from this physical world-God's riches are alive-His riches are living-His Holy Spirit, living in us, is the source of His living riches for our enjoyment.
Earthly riches are at absolute best, temporary-in the least, they are dead.
Psalm 135:15-18
15 The idols of the nations are silver and gold,
made by human hands.
16 They have mouths, but cannot speak,
eyes, but cannot see.
17 They have ears, but cannot hear,
nor is there breath in their mouths.
18 Those who make them will be like them,
and so will all who trust in them.
Seek God and ask Him to define 'things to enjoy' for you-ask God to show you how your joy may be complete. Yes, there is total dependence on Him involved in this and obedience and much heart and soul work-if you really want your joy to be full. Do you really want your joy to be full?
Then seek the only fully joyful God in Christ Jesus and your joy will be made full by Him alone.
...because He loves us...
Father in heaven, My Holy and High God,
Forgive my lust for earthly things-earthly Gods. You alone can make my joy complete. Show me how this all happens and what I am to do for Your kingdom. My heart is Yours.
Tender and loving Father,
In the name of Christ Jesus,
Amen
