There Be Giants

Sunday, April ‎24, ‎2022

Good morning, Lord

Verse of the Day: 1 Peter 1:18-19

knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.

Memory of the Month: Romans 5:8

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Today's reading: 2 SAMUEL 19-20 LUKE 18:1-23

There Be Giants

There will always be giants. As long as we stand for Jesus and God's kingdom, there will be giants. As long as we live in this life, there be giants...

In Second Samuel 21, David was getting old. He continued to go to the battledfield maybe because the Bathsheba thing was always in his mind. (If you remember, when the army went to war, David stayed home and the rest was a really bad story.) Whatever the reason, David would not stay home as long as there was a battle to fight.

The Philistines kept coming-they kept losing but they kept coming-and they came with giants. Four giants came after David and David killed none of them, His mighty men killed them.

Giant #1-Ishbi-benob, one of the descendants of the giants, whose spear weighed three hundred shekels of bronze, and who was armed with a new sword, thought to kill David.

Giant #2-Saph, who was one of the descendants of the giants.

Giant #3-(another Goliath)Goliath the Gittite, the shaft of whose spear was like a weaver's beam

Giant #4-(no name giant)there was a man of great stature, who had six fingers on each hand, and six toes on each foot, twenty-four in number, and he also was descended from the giants.

David did not kill any one of these but all died by the hand of David's men whom he had trained in combat and in the ways of the Lord and in life.

We all know that when David was young he killed the giant Goliath. He fought many, many battles and was still fighting in his old age-and the giants kept coming.

What does that tell us about life? It tells us that the giants keep coming. Another war or another heartbreak-another national disaster or one down the street. Another virus and a shutdown and mass layoffs-all are giants. But until the mighty young around us step in and tell us to go home, we keep fighting.

Yes, we must trust the Godly young people around us to step up and keep up the fight-yes, and slay a few more giants because the giants keep coming.

But God already knows the giants are coming-He knows them by name-He knows what they want and what they can do and how strong they really are. God knows. We must know that God has all we need for every battle. And we must also know that there are some extraordinary 'mighty' young Christian people who know the Lord and stand toe to toe with enemy every day. So, pray for the young Christians that they grow strong in the Lord.

Pray to the Lord of the harvest, and ask that He send out workmen-warriors...Matthew 9:38

Everyday and everywhere-there be Giants. But our God is bigger than all of them put together-all of them-Storms... God is bigger-cancer...God is bigger-pandemics...God is bigger--God is bigger than it all.

This God-our God-is the same God who so loved the world that he gave His only Son-that whoever believes in Him will not perish.

There be giants...and they all quake in fear of our mighty God.

The God who loves you and me...

...because He loves us...

Father in Heaven,

Forgive me for my fear of the giants-increase my faith to know You are always bigger.

In the name of Jesus,

Amen
