The Grass Of Spring

Thursday, ‎November ‎24, ‎2022

Good Morning, Lord

Verse of the Day: Psalm 100:4-5

Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name. For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting, And His truth endures to all generations.

Memory verse: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).

Readings: EZEKIEL 22-23 1 PETER 1

The Grass Of Spring

This time of year is a hard time to think of the grass of spring. It is cold and gray outside and it will be months before the weather warms. But, First Peter, chapter 1 says,

“Our lives are like the grass of spring, and any glory we enjoy is like the beauty of a wildflower."(verse 24)

That is great but then it says,

"The grass dries up and dies, and the flower falls to the ground."

Thanks preacher, you say, that's positive....

We have to take it all in context-that means don't miss what is around any certain scripture. 1 Peter 1: 23 starts this off saying, "You were born again through God’s life-giving message that lasts forever.

Then, verse 25 ties it up with:

"But the word of the Lord lasts forever.

And that word is the Good News that was told to you."

Our lives are like the grass of spring? Yes-there is no picture better to a country boy like me than cattle grazing in a pasture with green grass up to their knees. But remember, after the grass is cut, dried, baled, and put up in the barn, it is used to keep the stock fed in the cold and gray months.

We must look at what the scripture does not tell us. It tells us that on the way to our eternal homes that we are always useful and that we should never lose sight of that. God uses us to feed the word to the world.

"You were born again through God’s life-giving message that lasts forever. But the word of the Lord lasts forever." And that word is the Good News that was told to you."

The grass of spring feeds the hungry. So go share the word with the hungry. Don't worry about how gray you are or slow or how your face is not as fresh as it once was. We have the word of God, our eternal hope.

Colossians 1:27 ► To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

...because He loves us...

Father In Heaven,

Fill me with a desire to give of what I have been given-Your life in Christ-forgive my reluctance-embolden me.

Great God of mercy and strength!

In Jesus' name,

Amen
