Good Morning, Lord
Verse of the Day: Hebrews 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Memory verse: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).
Today's reading: JEREMIAH 46-47 HEBREWS 6
Prayin' And Pullin'
When someone says, "We're pulling for you", what does that mean?
In the sixties working for my Dad in the family business, there were a lot of times when we had to pull a vehicle or machine with another. We pulled trucks to get them started and we pulled tractor and trucks out of the mud. This was in the time before towing straps and we used 'log chains'. We would hook one end to the frame of what needed pulling and the other end onto the thing that would pull. One day, I was pulling a tractor out of the mud and the chain broke back next to the tractor in the mud. The chain was twenty-feet long and was under a lot of tension and it recoiled and shattered the back window of the truck I was in. I am fortunate to be alive. If the chain had hit me, it would have hit me in the head...
So, what does it mean to 'pull for someone'. It means that we love someone and we are hoping for the best for them in all things. The thing we pull with is not a chain or a strap. It is the love in our hearts.
If we 'love our neighbor the way we love ourselves', our hearts yearn for the success and well-being of our neighbor.
I think that what is missing a lot in these modern days is that we have gotten away from 'pulling' for folks. We have moved away from it because we do not want to 'get involved'-it is simply too much work. It takes much effort. After all, our lives are so busy...
Are you pulling for anyone right now? Has the Lord put someone in your heart that you cannot ignore?
First, let me say that I believe that God, our Father, puts people in our hearts and lives for eternal reasons. You may say, "Well, all I can do is pray." The key word here is 'all'. Let me explain.
The person for whom you pray may have problems with resources or problems with the 'right chances coming along' but the core of human problems is always spiritual and, therefore, need all the prayer you can muster.
When all you can do is pray, it is all you need to do. However, if there are physical things you can do, i.e., give money etc., then do all you can do.
Like the chain that broke and flew back at me, there may be risks in pulling for someone. These are risks that we take when we really love in Jesus' name. But know this: Jesus knew all the risks that led Him to the cross and He did all He could knowing where it would lead.
1 John 4:19 ►We love because he(God) first loved us.
So, as we walk this earth, we either allow God to love through us...or we do not. Not loving is sin-period.
So, love with all your heart. Pull for the folks God has put in your heart. Remember that the battle is not ours:
Ephesians 6:12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
Deuteronomy 20:4 For the Lord your God is he who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies, to give you victory.’
John 16:33 I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
The Lord has already overcome all our excuses and objections for pouring our lives into others.
Pull-pull with all the love you have.
Get busy...
Prayin' and pullin'...
...because He loves us...
Father in Heaven,
Forgive me for walking away from those who need Your help. Give me Your desire to obey You and teach me how to really pull for those You place in my heart.
Perfect God of perfect love,
In the name of Christ Jesus,
Amen
