Good morning, Lord

Verse of the Day:   John 4:14

but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

Memory verse: Psalm 90:14

14 Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.

Today's reading: JOB 32-33 ACTS 14

No Limits

On reading our July 4 words on our 'blessed'(happy) God, a dear friend wrote back that it is hard for him to see God as 'happy' and I wrote back that it is hard for me, too.

After all, God is a jealous God(Exodus 34:14) and vengeful.

Nahum 1:2-8

2 The LORD is a jealous and vengeful God; the LORD is vengeful and strong in wrath. The LORD is vengeful against his foes; he rages against his enemies.

3 The LORD is very patient but great in power; the LORD punishes. His way is in the whirlwind and storm; clouds are the dust of his feet.

Yes, it is hard to see God as happy-but then, it is simply hard to see God from where we are. We live in a world that now punishes the successful because of its own jealousy and pride. We understand only what we see and feel. We are so limited.

It is impossible for us to see God as vengeful and punishing and at the same time to see Him as happy-a God full of joy.

It is impossible for us...

But with God, all things are possible(Matthew 19:26 and Luke 18:27).

I believe this is another way the Holy Spirit draws us to Him as He draws close to us(James 4:8).

Our words will not get the job done. We cannot and will never be able to describe God as He really is because of our limited understanding and vocabulary. The more of God we learn, the more we realize how much we do not know.

But we are wired for intimacy with God because we are made in His image-God's infinite love for us pulls us deeper into His love. Jesus said,

"Everyone who drinks the water I give them will never thirst."

That means we will never thirst again for the world. We will never get enough of Him. As long as we are drinking 'His Water', we will not thirst. The second we cease to drink(sin), the thirst for the world is back.

Yes, it is hard to describe and grasp that God is the happiest being...but, is it hard to grasp that He is the source of all real peace?

It is hard to believe that He would give up His Son to die ...for me?

But, He did-and my words cannot explain...

...because He loves us...

Father in Heaven,

Great God above all our words of praise and meaning, I crave Your bread of strength and relief-Give me wisdom to forgive and walk away from evil. Forgive my weaknesses.

Father of all understanding,

In the name of Christ Jesus,

Amen
