How Do We Serve God?
Sunday, October 13, 2024
Good morning, Lord
Father in Heaven, I seek You first-Your peace-Your knowledge and discernment. I take up my cross and follow...In Jesus' name...
Verse of the Day: Jeremiah 29:11
11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope
Memory verse: Psalm 42:2(New American Bible )
"My soul thirsts for God, the living God. When can I enter and see the face of God?"
Today's reading: Isaiah 43-44 1 Thessalonians 2
How Do We Serve God?
We begin today by asking , "What does it mean to serve money?"
Matthew 6:24 (ESV)
24 “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money."
When we serve money we do we not meet the needs of money. We plan our educations our lives around getting enough money to accomplish our plans. Our lives revolve around getting the greatest benefit from money. This is 'serving' money.
Acts 17:25 (ESV)
25 "nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything."
So how do we serve God who does not need anything? All through the Bible, it says for us to serve our God.
“As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15).
“you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God” (1 Thessalonians 1:9).
We serve God as our lives revolve around getting the greatest benefit from Him-which is Him.
1 Peter 4:11 (ESV)
11 "whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen."
Yes, there is always work to do-a world full of work For God in Christ-but we don't work for the wage of salvation from God or accolades from God or to fulfill any need of God-we work so that God gets all the glory. The Giver gets the glory.
Serve the Lord with gladness.(Psalm 100:2)
...because He loves us...
Father in Heaven,
Your Glory is Your name. You are Your kingdom's glory. I fall so short of Your glory-forgive me my weak faith. Give me today's bread that I may serve to Your glory.
God of all glory,
In the name of Christ Jesus,
Amen
