Good morning, Lord
Father in Heaven, I seek You first-the knowledge of Your kingdom and Your righteousness. Fill my consciousness constantly and complete Your joy in me as I take up my cross and follow...In Jesus' name…
Memory verse: Joshua 1:9
9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Verse of the day-1 Corinthians 15:20-22
20 But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the first-fruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.
Today’s reading: 2 Samuel 6-8 Luke 15:1-10
Good Works
“You cannot work your way to Heaven”.
We have heard this all our lives while we see people give their lives to good works for the Lord. Today we look at what Paul’s main theme is in His writings to Titus. Good works come from serving our Master and making Him known. Good works come from our love for our Lord.
Titus 3:14 “ And let our people learn to devote themselves to good works, so as to help cases of urgent need, and not be unfruitful.”
To bear fruit, we must remain in Christ Jesus through His disciplined lifestyle.
John 15:5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.”
To guard our hearts and minds from being unfruitful, we must not let the world choke the Lord’s truth in us.
Mark 4:19 (Jesus says)”...but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful.”
Paul saw clearly the effects of the temptations his people lived in every day and felt the emergent need for them to stay faithful to Christ in doing good works and meeting needs in the name of God in Christ Jesus.
The cry of his heart was for all the body of Christ to be fruitful.
This was his life. His people could see it in Him and hear it in his words and see it in his relentless fervor.
What drove Paul? Paul loved Jesus and the grace he felt extended to Him and the fire it kept in him.
Do you feel blessed by this forgiving grace in your life? Tell God to tear the world away so you can more clearly see the blessings of his salvation-the freedom in which you live-the Spirit of truth that lives in you-so you can feel the relentless fire of God in every step.
...because He loves you, He will do it…
Father in Heaven,
Your name is relentless fire. I want to know the obedience of Your kingdom in my heart and mind. Give me today what You will. Forgive me for my obsession with the world. Lead me away from this evil.
Gracious and awesome God,
In the name of Christ Jesus,
Amen
