Good morning, Lord
Father in Heaven, I seek You first-the knowledge of Your kingdom and Your righteousness. Fill my consciousness constantly and complete Your joy in me as I take up my cross and follow...In Jesus' name…
Memory verse: Joshua 1:9
9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Verse of the day- Hebrews 9:28
28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.
Today’s reading: 2 Chronicles 17-18 John 13:1-20
The Motion of Our Minds
“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:4–5)
Four times in these two verses Jesus uses the verb abide or a form of it. This means that our relationship with Him never stops and it is our life’s work to figure out how to ‘abide’.
The car I bought 50 years ago is long gone. The effort and money I spent on that thing has no on-going effect on the life I live today. So it is with material things.
Jesus commands that our experience with Him not just be a one time deal-He commands that we abide-or consciously maintain our focus on our relationship with Him.
When Jesus said, ““If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples” (John 8:31),
I believe He meant that if we don’t abide in His word, we are not, truly, His disciples.
If we depend on our past experiences and do not abide or maintain everyday our lives of repentance, returning, restoration, listening, depending on Jesus, we are not true disciples-we are false disciples.
One look at or own hearts tells us the truth.
What do you need to do?
All of us have much work to do but just seeing the truth will not get it done. We must return to God in Christ and confess our sin and get busy focusing on God and all He has for each of us.
Return to God after every look at the things of the world. This is not to say that every look at the world is sin-only you and God can know that. But returning to God should be the motion of our minds-like breathing. Returning to God must become our breathing-our life.
Tell Him-ask Him-thank Him-praise Him-breathe His breath of life.
...because He loves us...He will do it…
Father in Heaven,
Your name always will be the name above all names. I want to know all I can about Your kingdom and how to do Your will. Help me abide today-all day-in You. Forgive me my ‘on and off’ focus. Lead me away from being a false disciple.
Restoring God,
In the name of Christ Jesus,
Amen
