Good morning, Lord
Father in Heaven, I seek You first-the knowledge of Your kingdom and Your righteousness. Fill my consciousness constantly and complete Your joy in me as I take up my cross and follow...In Jesus' name…
Memory verse: Psalm 27:13-14 (NIV)
“I remain confident of this, I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”
Verses of the day-Job 23:10-11
10 But he knows the way that I take; when he has tried me, I shall come out as gold.11 My foot has held fast to his steps; I have kept his way and have not turned aside.
Today’s reading: Numbers 23-25 Mark 7:14-37
Different Tongues?
"Do you talk to your mother with that tongue?"
This was asked of a man who had just finished with a line of vulgar mouthfuls of insults.
One thing that should not be part of the vocabulary of a follower of Jesus is foul language. You think, "Well, everybody does it". What does that sound like? It sounds like a teenager's justification of actions to a parent-a teenager or younger...
Our question to ourselves should be, "Do I talk to God with that tongue?" What we should always be aware of is that God hears everything we say and the thoughts that precipitated our words-but-
"Do you talk to God with that tongue?"
The point is that we should be of the same mind all the time. The presence of the Holy Spirit should temper our thinking every second.
Foul language is just that-foul. But it is not really the language that should concern us. It comes from some part of us that is foul. What part of us-what tiny little part of us is so foul as to spew sewage from our mouths.
It is that same foul little thing where we start to talk about people's behavior or gossip.
The quote goes, "Great minds talk about ideas; average minds talk about events; small minds talk about people-gossip and judging."
Our quote is, "Righteous minds think about and listen to God".
John 8:47 "He who is of God hears the words of God; for this reason you do not hear them, because you are not of God.”
The 'foul part' of us is not from God. It is sin living in us-the old man. Take it captive and control it.
Romans 7:17 ►As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me.
2 Corinthians 10:5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
The last of the nine fruits of the Spirit is 'self-control'-it is ours in Christ Jesus by the presence of the Holy Spirit. Seek first the kingdom of God(Matthew 6:33)...then seek self control.
...because He loves us...
Father in Heaven,
Hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, Your will be done. Forgive me my foul part that thinks bad speech. Holy Spirit, fix my thinking.
Our God of righteous consciousness,
In the name of Christ Jesus,
Amen
