Follow Your Heart?
Monday, February 27, 2022 Good morning, Lord Verse of the Day: Prov. 3 Verses 5 to 6 [5] Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. [6] In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Memory of the Month: 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Today's reading: NUMBERS 15-16 MARK 6:1-29 Follow Not Thine Heart Prov. 3 Verses 5 to 6 [5] Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. [6] In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. The 'gospel' of the world says "follow your heart". It this the right thing to do? No. “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?” (Jeremiah 17:9) Jesus said, “out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander” (Matthew 15:19) Our hearts will lead us in the wrong direction. People refer to folks who are narcissistic as having big problems. If you follow your heart, you are narcissistic-it cannot be helped. Really? Yes, really. Before we cast stones at someone who is narcissistic, ask yourself when was the last time you asked God what to do and you actually listened and obeyed. We just naturally do what we think we need to do-what our hearts tells us to do. Before someone becomes unhinged at me for this: Romans 3:23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God... All of us have sinned. That means all us were born narcissistic. Our hearts cannot save us. Our hearts lead in the wrong direction. Our hearts are the heart of the problem. But...: And so he is able, now and always, to save those who come to God through him, because he lives forever to plead with God for them Hebrews 7:25. Jesus told us what to do. He did not say, "Don't let your hearts be troubled, but trust your hearts". Jesus said, 'Don't let your hearts be troubled, you trust God, also trust me, John 14:1. Again: Psalm 37:4 ►Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Once we have given our hearts to Jesus, He will give us the desires in our hearts. He will place the desires He wants us to have in our hearts-not our heart's desire, but His heart's desire. Our life in Christ is about following God's heart, not ours. The world tells us a lot of wrong things. The world says that we need all to be highly educated---and then it tells us to follow our hearts? What? The jails are full of folks who followed their hearts. The path to success is littered with broken hearts that were followed. Take a look at all the bad press from the 'past' of the politicians. Look at all the folks who could run for office but do not want their old failures to come to light. We could go on and on. We cannot have two masters. We either follow the heart of God or we follow our own heart-that without Jesus, well, hear this: 2 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, 2 in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. 3 All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh(our hearts) and following its desires and thoughts, Ephesians 2. It is a simple truth. We cannot follow our own hearts if our hearts are not ruled by God in Christ Jesus. Song of Solomon 2:4 ►He brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over me was love. ...because He loves us... Father in Heaven, Forgive me for following my heart. This day is Yours-my heart belongs to You. Have mercy, oh God! Healing and righteous Father. In the name of Jesus, Amen
