Fire And Glory


Zechariah 2:4-5

4 and said to him: “Run, tell that young man, ‘Jerusalem will be a city without walls because of the great number of people and animals in it. 5 And I myself will be a wall of fire around it,’ declares the Lord, ‘and I will be its glory within.’


Once it was a simple field of wheat. In my memory, I see year after year of crops cultivated and harvested. In that field I drove through what now are street after street of beautiful homes with lush, green lawns and beautiful trees. It has been 40 years-from field to city. The city has covered it all. The great number of people in all those homes is overwhelming. In 1960, there were 650 people in Allen, Texas, my hometown-now there are over 106,000.


They tell us there are over 29 million folks in Texas now and by 2050, the population will be over 54 million. That is hard to grasp.


We have tried to keep the hoards out of Texas by building a wall and that fell through. Personal protection is high on everyone's list. The verse in Zechariah talks about the time when walls cannot hold in the prosperity. We now live in that prosperity here in our country. Cities sprawl with no means of walling out threats to property and people.


2 Corinthians 1:20

20 For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.

Galatians 3:29 ►If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.


We are heirs to all God's promises in Christ. He tells us in Zechariah that He will be a wall of fire around us and not only that-not only does he wall us in with His fire of protection but He gives us His Glory-the pleasure of His presence.


Anytime we see a promise in the Old Testament to God's children-that is who we are in Christ-the promises are ours.


The world may rage around us. The cities my surround us-but our God in Christ is our wall of fire and our joy in His rivers of Life.


...because He loves us...


Father in Heaven,

Forgive me for yielding to my fears and let me see Your wall of fire around me in faith in Christ Jesus.

Faithful Father and my strength,
