Expect To Meet God
Wednesday, January 15, 2025
Good morning, Lord
Father in Heaven, I seek You first-Your peace-Your knowledge and discernment. Build my trust. I take up my cross and follow...In Jesus' name...
Verse of the Day: John 8:31-32
31 So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
Memory verse: Psalm 139:23–24 (ESV)
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! 24 And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!
Today's reading: Genesis 36-38 Matthew 10:21-42
Expect to Meet God
When you read God's Holy word, expect to meet God-not just read about Him but meet God Himself.
1 Samuel 3:21 "And the Lord appeared again at Shiloh, for the Lord revealed himself to Samuel at Shiloh by the word of the Lord."
God revealed Himself by His word to Samuel and he will do the same for us if we seek Him in His word.
This means that we read with purpose and that purpose is to meet God-not just to meet a quota of daily reading. I am recording the International Children's Bible this year. I did it once years ago but this time, I'm recording it for my grandchildren and so I read as if they were sitting here listening. This is turning into quite an experience because voice inflection and emotion for little ears makes me think of and consider every word.
God shows up and reveals Himself when we read with purpose, so, I challenge you to find that place alone and read God's word to Him and don't miss a syllable-God is in every bit. He brings the word alive and makes it rise from the page in His living color.
Don't think you have read it once from cover to cover and seen and know it all. 'It' is God Himself and there is always something new to learn and experience. His power, His glory, His peace, His love-all of God is there for us to learn and know-a little at a time. Trust me-a little bit of God is a great deal for the human mind.
...because He loves us...
Father in Heaven,
Your name is greater than all my words and may Your kingdom come in all its glory. Holy Spirit, load my mind with urgency for obedience to Your word. Forgive me my rebellion. Lead me away from false promises of the world.
Gracious Lord and gentle friend,
In the name of Christ Jesus,
Amen
