Verse of the Day: 2 Corinthians 7:1
Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
Memory verse: Romans 12:1: Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship.
Today's reading: PSALM 97-99 ROMANS 16
A New Song
With all the fantasy and chaos that seems to control our national media streams, it seems good news does not exist. The reality is that so much of humanity thrives in bad news-bad news sells and conflict pays the bills.
Although we must operate in the world, we must remember that we are not of this world.
1 Peter 2:11-12 New American Standard Bible
11 Beloved, I urge you as aliens and strangers to abstain from fleshly lusts which wage war against the soul.
The scripture reminds us to come out and be separate.(2 Corinthians 6:17)
As Jesus prayed for all believers, He prayed,
"I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world. My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of it."(John 17:14-16)
But we must keep our hearts and minds on God and off the world. As we are splattered with new bad news everyday, we must know that the Holy Spirit has 'something new' everyday and it is here before our electronics have a chance to be switched on in the morning.
God's mercies(compassions) are new every morning.
Lamentations 3:22 Because of the LORD’s loving devotion we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. 23They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness! 24“The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in Him.”…
This brings us to a statement from our daily reading for today in Psalm 96:1
Sing to the Lord a new song;
Sing to the Lord, all the earth.
2 Sing to the Lord, bless His name;
Proclaim good tidings of His salvation from day to day.
As a 'wood-be' songwriter, I have always maintained that there is a song in everything. Everywhere you look there is a story. That is true for us personally only if we look for it and believe it.
God wants us to look and believe and know---know that His tender mercies in His loving kindness are new every morning. How is that? How can love be new eveyday?
Today we live, love, and learn. If we do not we have wasted a day. But if we do love and learn today, we will look at the next new day expecting more-and there it is-new everyday.
In the chaos of the world, God's mercies for us are not just back every morning, but new and fresh. Our hearts are newly painted with God grace and mercy and gentleness and kindness everyday. Nothing ever has time to get old with God's grace because time means nothing in God's kingdom. There is no 'old'-behold, all things are new.
2 Corinthians 5:17
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!
Isaiah 43:18 English Standard
18 “Remember not the former things,
nor consider the things of old.
Isaiah 43:19 English Standard Version
19 Behold, I am doing a new thing;
now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?
I will make a way in the wilderness
and rivers in the desert.
Revelation 21:5 English Standard Version
5 And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”
A new song-day to day-a new song in our hearts and lives-but we must look for it because we believe it and the less we look to the world for our 'news'...
('news'-plural of new)
God holds all the real 'news'. The only 'news' we need-the new song we must sing-the new song we are blessed with-everyday.
...because He loves us...
Father in Heaven,
Forgive me when I let the world fill me with anxiety. I want to focus on everything You have new for me today. Thank You for all the blessings!
Great God of mercy and grace!
In the name of Christ Jesus,
Amen
