Memory verse: 1 John 1:8–9

8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the 

truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and 

just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all 

unrighteousness.

Verse of the day: “1 John 2:1 My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense — Jesus Christ the Righteous One.”

Today’s reading: Isaiah 1-2 Galatians 5

The Faith Express

I have seen movements where a teacher would gather followers and start churches and grow to great numbers and then fail and thought ‘what a pity’.

In the same way I have seen individuals come to faith and appear to catch fire and then fall away.

Why do these kind of sad things happen?

In Galatians 5, I think God tells us through Paul.

Galatians 5:6 says in most all modern translations something like this:

For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith working through love.

The Greek actually translates something like this:

For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any power, but faith working through love. 

The only thing that matters is faith being expressed by the power of God in love-though us.

Faith expressed through excitement about growth in numbers or in the strength of leadership or great preaching or teaching or mass following cannot continue unless that faith is being expressed by the power of God’s love through the people.

For us individually this means that any work we do must be motivated by the Holy Spirit loving through us-not by how much we are respected or honored-not by how successful we are.

As a child I watched the freight train carry tons of goods past my house everyday. If you return there today, the track is gone-no more fast moving train-no more express faith-only the scars on the land where it once was.

Unless the power of God’s love motivates us our energies are wasted.

Psalm 127:1 “Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.”

Tell God that you want His power in His love to motivate you and nothing else.

...because He loves you, He will do it…

Father in Heaven,

The power in Your name is everything. I want to learn as much of Your kingdom as I can today. Give me patience. Forgive me for letting my sin nature motivate me. Lead me away from this.
