Our Conviction, Holding Firmly
Thursday, November 5, 2020 Good Morning, Lord V.O.D.: Hebrews 3:6 But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory. M.O.M.: The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.—Romans 13:12 Today's reading: Jeremiah 37-39 Hebrews 3
Our Conviction, Holding Firmly
To have conviction is to have principles or a strong belief in something.
Two places in Hebrews 3 the writer says:"If, indeed, we hold firmly..." Hebrews 3:6 But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory. 14 We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end.
We can say we are His house in Christ and that we are here to share Christ if we cling to the scripture(principles) and our faith(strong belief).
Where do our principles come from if not from scripture? If they come from anywhere else, there are of sin(Romans 14:23). Where does strong faith come from if not from clinging to scripture with all we are? Jesus replied: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind."
How do we cling with all that we are? Do we look for miracles, signs, and wonders like the Jews asked of Jesus? God still does miracles everyday. But what if you, individually, only hear of these miracles and nothing miraculous ever happens to you? How do you cling when just the opposite happens? When your living is lost and your family dies around you and your friends show up like Job's did and accuse you of sin, how do you cling?
First, we who are true believers in Christ have had the greatest miracle performed in our own hearts. We have been saved by the blood of Christ and have had God write our names in the Lamb's book of life just like He wrote the ten commandments with His finger in those tablets of stones so long ago.
Then, God has moved right in our hearts and by doing so has marked us as His. 2 Corinthians 1:21 Now it is God who establishes both us and you in Christ. He anointed us, 22 placed His seal on us, and put His Spirit in our hearts as a pledge of what is to come.
As His house, we have come to share Christ(Hebrews 3:6,14) but only if we cling to our faith.
Our country, as much as we do not want to admit it, is going through changes that do not seem to line up with why it was founded. The country is not clinging to its original principles and convictions. Does that mean we do the same?
What it means is that we have an even greater challenge to share Christ from His House(His body, us) than ever before.
How do we cling? I write it everyday. Study the Bible-read it daily-record it-memorize it-dwell on God-visit with God constantly-search His heart-seek His mind.
Quit thinking that this life of piety is for preachers and teachers and not for everyday people like you. Start thinking with the mind of Jesus and seeing with His eyes and you will see what He has placed before you.
God may want you to give because you are homebound. He wants us all to pray for each other and the nation and the world. He wants to speak out for Him but only when He ordains it and you will know only if you are clinging-holding firmly to what He places in your heart and you constantly read and study.
Take out His tools. Sharpen and oil and shine and practice using them. Learn from Him and those in scripture how to firmly grip and wield. Open your mouth and He will give you words.
...because He loves us...
Father in Heaven, Forgive me for holding back and not clinging to You. I want to want You and deep faith in You. Forgiving and merciful God. In the name of Jesus. Amen
