Good morning, Lord
Verse of the Day: James 4:2
2 You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask.
Memory verse: Psalm 90:14
14 Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.
Today's reading: JOB 3-4 ACTS 7:44-60
You Can Have It All
James 4:2 "You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask."
You desire-you covet--It is time for us to look at what we really desire and what we really want.
This passage tells us that because of our desires that we kill(murder). Strong language. What do we murder but hope itself? When our desires consume us, eternal hope is lost.
We covet, or we are jealous for something someone else has and we allow that to turn to hate and this makes us bitter. Greed and jealousy makes us hopelessly bitter. This sounds harsh and is ,but, this is what runs the world. Look at our political landscape-look at our business world.
So, let's look to Almighty God.
Psalm 37:4 ►Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
The human heart is so naturally wicked that we read that and think if we 'get God on our side' we can have what we want. But if we really delight in God, we have given up what we want because now we want Him. When we delight in the Lord, we want what God wants. "How do I get to that point?", you ask. "How do I get to where I really want what He wants?"
Matthew 7:8 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.
Philippians 4:6 (Easy-to-Read Version)
6 Don’t worry about anything, but pray and ask God for everything you need, always giving thanks for what you have.
The answer is always a prayer away-a secret prayer-time away. But human nature wants it now-weak faith lives close to that line dividing hope and despair and impatience pulls us into worry(despair in disguise).
Hebrews 4:16 (Easy-to-Read Version)
16 With Jesus as our high priest, we can feel free to come before God’s throne where there is grace. There we receive mercy and kindness to help us when we need it.
Desperate times-desperate measures-or great times-desperate measures-throw yourself into God's grace. Don't run away from despair in faithless fear. Run to God in hopeful faith-allow God to wrap you in the freedom of His mercy and kindness. It is real-it is the only reality worth seeking in this life.
God waits in joy for you to return to Him. Go now...
...because He loves us...
Father in Heaven,
Your name is above all names and powers. Grant me the will and strength to obey and do what You want. Forgive my wicked will to do what I want. Give me a great hunger for obedience. Make my desire for You.
Joyful and mercifully kind Lord,
In the name of Christ Jesus,
Amen
