Good morning, Lord

Father in Heaven, I seek You first-the knowledge of Your kingdom and Your righteousness. Fill my consciousness constantly and complete Your joy in me as I take up my cross and follow...In Jesus' name…

Memory verse: Joshua 1:9

9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Verses of the day-Isaiah 53:5-6

“But he was pierced for our transgressions he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.”

Today’s reading:  Judges 11-12 Luke 6:1-26

The Point Of Monday

One writer named Seth Porch wrote: “The point of Monday was always Friday”.

Mark 11 tells of Jesus walking from Bethany to Jerusalem and was hungry. He stopped and looked for figs in a fig tree but it was not fig season. He saw no fruit and cursed the tree saying in verse 14, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.”

He went to the temple and turned over the tables of the money changers. They all went back to Bethany. The next morning they saw the fig tree withered to the roots(verses 20,21).

The withered fig tree was the nation of Israel-without fruit-out of season and now withered from the root.

Here a fig tree was dead and never to yield fruit again. On a hill not too far away was another tree that was dead but would yield life to all who are chosen-the tree that Jesus would die on.

The point of Monday was always Friday. Jesus was readying His people for what was about to happen. The whole world was about to change. The fruitless nation of Israel would kill Him and from His death the fruit of the ages would come-the salvation through Christ our Lord to all who believe.

Some think it pointless for Jesus to have killed a fruitless fig tree out of season but He was painting a picture of Israel. But the really big picture for all of us is the life for us that came from the dead tree on Golgotha-the place our savior bore our sins to that tree.

On it hung the Son of Man, cursed as are all who hang on a tree” (Deuteronomy 21:23).

Jesus cursed the tree but soon became a curse for us.

Galatians 3:13 says, “13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us..14 so that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promised Spirit through faith.”

It is hard sometimes to wrap our heads around what Jesus has done and is doing for us so tell God you want more understanding.

...because He loves you, He will do it…

Father in Heaven

Infinite glory is yours. Give me greater desire to obey as it is in Heaven. Give me today what You say I need. Forgive me for not applying my mind to Your word as I should. Lead me away from evil.

Patient Lord,

In the name of Christ Jesus,

Amen
