Good morning, Lord
Father in Heaven, I seek You first-the knowledge of Your kingdom and Your righteousness. Fill my consciousness constantly and complete Your joy in me as I take up my cross and follow...In Jesus' name…
Memory verse: Psalm 27:13-14 (NIV)
“I remain confident of this, I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”
Verse of the day: 1 Peter 1:24,25“All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, 25 but the word of the Lord remains forever.”
Today’s reading: Jeremiah 15-17 2 Timothy 2
What leads to Prayerlessness?
“I just can’t pray”.
“God is not answering me”.
Have you ever said this? Have you ever heard someone say this? I want us to look for bit at why this happens to all of us-and it does. There are usually three reasons: disappointment, deviation, and distraction.
1 Thessalonians 5:17
17 “pray without ceasing,”
God answers prayers three ways: yes, no, or wait. There is only one of those answers that we really like. We don’t like ‘no’ and we don’t like to ‘wait’. Being disappointed in God will put us in a place where it is hard to pray. But, we must look at this closely.
We are impatient-we want what we want and we want it now. We may not react outwardly like a small child anymore but inside we are at least tempted to sulk. Or, we are hurt deeply because we are praying for a physical or spiritual healing of loved ones and can’t understand why God has not given what we asked for. In either case, we allow a barrier of our own ‘feelings’ to stop our prayers. We get this feeling we read in: Psalm 13:1“How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me?” .
There is a reason over one third of the Psalms are written in lament. It is teaching us to take our hurt and disappointment to the one we feel has disappointed us. Nothing will change unless we talk to God about it.
As Jesus taught us in Luke 18:1-7, we must continue to ask-to pray with out ceasing.
We must hear God’s word to Adam in the Garden, “Where are you?”(Genesis 3:9)
The next time you feel you cannot pray, ask yourself, “Where am I?” The answer is that you are never beyond the grace of God who loves you and has given His Son to be reunited with you. So keep praying. Trust that God hears you.
...because He loves you, He will do it...
Father in Heaven,
Give me the ability to hallow Your name more and more and to realize Your kingdom so I obey as it is in Heaven. Give me today what You know I need. Forgive me for allowing distance between me and You. Lead me away from evil.
Great, Mighty, still, small voice,
In the name of Christ Jesus,
Amen
