Just Cedars?

Saturday, November 2, 2024

Good morning, Lord

Father in Heaven, I seek You first-Your peace-Your knowledge and discernment. I take up my cross and follow...In Jesus' name...

Verse of the Day:  1 Peter 2:9

But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;

Memory verse: Psalm 42:2(New American Bible )

"My soul thirsts for God, the living God. When can I enter and see the face of God?"

Today's reading: Jeremiah 30-31 Philemon 1

Cedar

Jeremiah  22:15 "did you become King just to contend with cedar?"

Our verse of the day says:

But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 1 Peter 2:9

We have been called from darkness into God's marvelous light. We are a chosen generation-royal priests-a nation of His holy and special people.

With all that, why do we continue to chase the world and its security?

In Galatians chapter 5, Paul says:

7 "You were running a good race. Who cut in on you to keep you from obeying the truth? 8 That kind of persuasion does not come from the one who calls you."

Verse 6 says: "The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love."

"...did you become King just to contend with cedar?"

Do we think God called us to be a holy nation of priests so we could trust the world and chase its pleasure and security-to be so involved in busy work that we no longer express our faith in Him through His love?

No-of course not. But God is patient and we are sinful. I ride down our highways and think what a scourge the cedars(junipers) are on this country. What a waste of thinking. Whatever is true, noble right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, or praiseworthy, this is where my thinking should be-the faith God gives me in expressing itself through love."

I have a lot of work to do...

...because He loves us...

Father in Heaven,

I confess that I have not chosen to let You renew my heart. Restore my heart that I may love the way You want me to and that I may constantly focus on you.

Most patient and Holy, holy God,

In the name of Christ Jesus,

Amen
