Good morning, Lord
Father in Heaven, load me with desire to seek You first-the knowledge of Your kingdom and Your insight to righteousness. Hold my attention constantly and complete Your joy in me as I take up my cross and follow...In Jesus' name…
Memory verse: 1 John 1:8–9
8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the
truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness.
Verse of the day- Philippians 2:9-11 “God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every other name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
Today’s reading: Psalm 10-12 Acts 19:1-20
In A Hurry?
Some of our bald cypress trees along our river in Kerrville are between 150-500 years old. They have survived many droughts and many floods in those years. Their root systems seem to go forever holding the banks of the river in tact in tangled log walls. Yes, God thought of that, too.
Psalm 1:3&4 “That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers.
4 Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away.”
‘Chaff’ in the Bible is the waste on a threshing floor after the grain kernel has been separated. Much of it is dust but all of it blows in the wind. So, to get rid of the chaff, workers would uses implements to pick up the mixture and toss it in the air and the chaff would blow away. Threshing floors were built on high places to take advantage of the constant winds so the wind carried the chaff away leaving the clean grain behind.
The point is that chaff flies quickly away sometimes for miles in high winds leaving the grain-the food value-behind.
Are you in a hurry? How much do you-do we-hurry? Do we hurry like the wind? Do we get caught up and let the winds of enemy internet or financial stress or whatever carry us away from our real food source?
Learning from God’s Spirit to stand firmly on our knees where He provides our spiritual food value is really hard. We use all of our regular excuses for not reading and studying and meditating and let the world blow our conscious attention way down the road from what we really need.
King David once bought a threshing floor-a high place-where his son Solomon would build the great temple of God(2 Samuel 24:24).
Pray that God shows you clearly the threshing floor of your heart and mind-the place where He shows you how to separate the real grain of His word from the chaff of confusion and hurry from the world. Ask Him to blow the chaff away-but we must be the ones who throw the grain in the air. It’s steady and sometimes hard. We must be persistent in this labor of seeking God with all we are so our roots run and tangle and hold fast.
Find your threshing floor-find God’s temple in your heart.
...because He loves you, He will do it…
Father in Heaven,
Teach me to hallow Your name as King David did. Your kingdom come in my heart with a desire for my obedience. Give me today what You know I need and forgive me for being in a hurry to get ‘through’ with my time with You. Lead me away from wickedness.
Lord God of all,
In the name of Christ Jesus,
Amen
