Good morning, Lord

Father in Heaven, I seek You first-the knowledge of Your kingdom and Your righteousness. Fill my consciousness constantly and complete Your joy in me as I take up my cross and follow...In Jesus' name…

Memory verse: Jeremiah 15:19 ESV

Therefore thus says the Lord: “If you return, I will restore you, and you shall stand before me. If you utter what is precious, and not what is worthless, you shall be as my mouth. They shall turn to you, but you shall not turn to them.”

Verse of the day: Isaiah 26:3 “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.”

Hate Sin

I saw a bumper sticker once that said, “Love God, hate sin”. We need to talk about this. We have said many times that we should love the sinner but hate his sin.

Where in scripture do we see hate? We see hate for the enemies of God in the Psalms-Psalm 5:10; 10:15; 28:4; 31:17–18; 35:4–6; 40:14–15; 58:6–11; 69:22–28; 109:6–15; 139:19–22; 140:9–10.

No, the Psalms are not all about hate. The Psalmists also speak in many places of having evil returned for their love. But the point is that the scripture shows us a place for hate-not a license for hate but a place.

We hate the evil that hurts our witness for God. We hate evil that intends harm to God’s kingdom. We hate evil that keeps those we love from experiencing Christ. We hate evil that brings destruction.

The key word is evil. We love people as long as we can, But Jesus had a point of walking away. In Matthew 15:14, Jesus said, “Leave them, they are blind guides.” These were harsh words from Jesus-but they were His words-God’s word-the final word-not our judgment.

We must pray long and hard and listen to the very heart of God in the Mind of Christ before we ‘leave them’.

The worst evil we may see in our lives is the evil that destroys those we love. It is hard to isolate our feelings sometimes to the point of really seeing our motives when loved ones are involved.

Jesus knew Judas and what would happen and loved Him to His death. I cannot imagine how the other disciples felt after the ‘kiss’ in the garden. Judas was their brother for three years.

The kind of hate Jesus forbids us is the wish for someone’s destruction not our ‘moral repugnance’-our hate for evil.

Hate for evil is in the Bible. The right for us to judge and condemn in judgment is not-it is evil itself.

Our life in Christ is to love God with all we are-but-we must hate evil by God’s Spirit of Truth in us giving us discernment while we love our enemies.

I know this sounds confusing-to hate while we love-but God has drawn the line and we are on His side of that line. We just need to pray to be sure that when we feel hate, that it is for the evil-not the people-until God may one day say,

Walk away”.

Until then, we must trust God in His perfect peace because our minds are ‘stayed’ on Him.(Isaiah 26:3)

...because He loves you, He will do it…

Father in Heaven,

Show me how to best hallow Your name. Show me how to become aware of Your kingdom. I want to live by Your will. Give me Your discernment for this day. Forgive me my wrongful hate. Lead me away from evil.

Good and gentle God of awesome power,

In the name of Christ Jesus,

Amen

ree
