Childlike Awe
Tuesday, March 18, 2025
Good morning, Lord
Father in Heaven, I seek You first-the knowledge of Your limitless love in Christ. Build my trust and my passion. I take up my cross and follow...In Jesus' name…
Memory verse: Ephesians 2:6 “And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus.”
Verse of the Day: Romans 15:13
13 “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.”
Daily Reading: Deuteronomy 32-34 Mark 15:26-47
Childlike Awe
Matthew 19:14
But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not hinder them! For the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
“Do it again, Daddy, do it again!” Remember that? I said it to my Dad and my children said it to me. It seems the children retain wonder and awe at things.
This is the way we are to be about how great our God is-all the time and this is hard for us all unless we are conscious of Him all the time.
The first time I drove down the hill into Kerrville in 1985, I felt at home and, with only a short time in another state, I have been here since. I felt at home immediately. But after a while, I started taking the hills for granted. Then I left my church employment and got back on a bulldozer clearing brush. I saw things in this country that some folks never see. Every day, the scenery was new. You could say that ignorance is easily amused and write me off as ignorant if you want but I saw intricacies of God’s creation. I saw half a river come out of the earth and water drip from a high bluff in arid surroundings.
The point is, God is everywhere we are and we must not get accustomed to ‘carrying dynamite’ in our pockets. That sounds odd, yes, but that is what we are-only God is ultimately greater than dynamite.
How do we maintain that awe? How to carry that explosive power and not be afraid?
We must remain as a child. “Do it again, Father”. God’s love assures us that His ultimate power will hold us and not hurt us. His protection carries us and blesses us. He teaches us through trials. He lifts us when we fall. He disciplines us when we need it. But our relationship with Him is like no other.
Every day-all day long, we must return to childlike trust-even as we operate as functioning adults.
Continue to see God’s great power in every move and thought and He will keep it fresh.
...because He loves us...
Father in Heaven,
Your majesty is new everyday. Fill me with awe and great desire for obedience. Forgive me for losing touch with my childlike faith and awe.
Lead me away from evil soul-danger.
In the name of Christ Jesus,
Amen
