Good morning, Lord

Father in Heaven, I seek You first-the knowledge of Your kingdom and Your righteousness. Fill my consciousness constantly and complete Your joy in me as I take up my cross and follow...In Jesus' name…

Memory verse: Psalm 27:13-14 (NIV)

I remain confident of this, I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”

Verse of the day: “The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.”—Psalm 34:10

Today’s reading:  Isaiah 37-38 Colossians 3

Bread And Cup

Jesus left us two ordinances. The Lord’s Supper and Baptism. We call them ordinances because Jesus ‘ordained’ them or put them in motion to be followed forever by His Body-His church-us. We have looked at baptism and now look at the Lord’s Supper.

Jesus ordained His supper at the Passover meal the night before His death. The story of the Exodus of the Jews from Egypt tells us in chapter 12 that they took the blood of the ‘passover’ lamb and put it on the sides and tops of their doors and the angel of death would ‘pass’ over them. Jesus is our passover lamb(1 Corinthians 5:7). His blood on our lives(Revelation 1:7) takes our sin away and makes us accepted as His children(John 1:12,13).

Jesus said, “Do this”. Plain and simple. “Do this to remember me. This is my body and my blood.” Historically, a lot has been made of this ’body’ and ‘blood’. And it is of utmost importance to ‘do this in remembering’ what Jesus actually did on the cross. But no one has ever actually drank the blood of Christ or eaten His flesh-no one-ever. No matter what is done around the ‘elements’ (wine and bread) they never change into flesh and blood-ever.

It is what happens in our hearts and souls-it has always been symbolic language-but on the other hand-it can never be just symbolic language.

Jesus said, In John 6:53–54 Jesus said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life.”

A few verses later, He said, “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life” (John 6:63).

Jesus drives this deep with these words. He is saying don’t-just don’t let yourself get caught up in ‘my flesh and blood’ without knowing in your heart that it is all spiritual-’Holy Spiritual’.

His supper is most profoundly holy and spiritual-that we must remember His flesh and blood as we take part. Our lives in Christ cannot grow without continually remembering that He is our sacrificial lamb. His blood is His mark on our lives in the person of the Holy Spirit.

Ephesians 1:13-”When you heard that Good News, you believed in Christ. And in Christ, God put his special mark on you by giving you the Holy Spirit that he promised.”

The flesh is no help at all(John 6:63).

Unless we take of His flesh and His blood-a miraculous work of the Holy Spirit-we have no part in Him(John 6:53, 54).

So, when it comes time for the Lord’s supper, empty our lives of all else-we confess our filth and get it out-we leave worries and thoughts of this life and we plead with the Holy Spirit to make this as real as anything else in our worlds-and we partake and remember and we float freely in the Holy Spirit and we celebrate our Lord as we step closer to the finish line.

Be ready the next time you come to His table...tell Him you want this with all you are.

...because He loves us, He will do it…

Father in Heaven,

Hallowed be Your Holy Name. Your kingdom come and Your will be done in my life. Give me today what You know I need and the desire to embrace it. Forgive me for not continually remembering...Lead me away from evil.

God of all provision,

In the name of Christ Jesus,

Amen
