Good Morning, Lord
Verse of the Day: 1 Peter 2:2-3 as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
Memory of the month: And they said to one another, "Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?" —Luke 24:32
Today's reading: JOSHUA 4-6 LUKE 1:1-20
Barefoot, Aware
There is an appearance of an angel of the Lord in Joshua, chapter 5. The scripture does not describe him as an angel, at first, but simply says that Joshua looks up and sees a man with a drawn sword. Joshua asks him if he is friend or enemy which indicates Joshua did not see anything special about the man. The answer from the 'man' is that he is neither friend or foe but commander of the armies of the Lord.
Immediately, Joshua falls on his face before the angel and asked what is his message from the Lord. The only answer is this, "Take your shoes off, this is holy ground."
The angel was neither friend or enemy????
The message for us today from this is this: nothing else matters but the fact that God is here. God has shown up and is always in Your life. Our righteous God has His forces around us all the time. It does not matter what is going on or what will happen, we must always leave God on the throne of our lives.
Let's say that you get a summons to serve on a jury in the highest court in your area. You walk in and are waiting with all the others and you are making conversation and you ask a guy in a suit who he thinks is guilty. His answer is this: "That does not matter-behold the righteousness of God".(Really?)
Yes, this is 'far-fetched' but the point is there. No matter where we are God is no respecter of persons, Acts 10:34, and we should never let the task at hand or our emotions take our focus off God.
Joshua was about to lead God's children into the promised land-the culmination of 40 years in the wilderness and the message is "see the righteousness of God"-"never forget the Holiness of God".
You, we, are about to walk out in the world today. Are we friend or foe? Righteous or not righteous? In Christ or not?
When Joshua asked the angel, "Friend or foe?", the angel might have well asked, "Joshua, are you friend or foe"...that is the point. Always know where you stand.
Take off your shoes...God is with us all the time.
...because He loves us...
Our Father in Heaven,
Forgive me for not trying to understand more about Your perfection.
You are Holy-greater than my mind can comprehend-this is holy ground-great are You Lord and worthy of all praise!!
Mighty and great God!
In the name of Christ Jesus,
Amen
