Ask God First

Friday, March 21, 2025

Good morning, Lord

Father in Heaven, I seek You first-the knowledge of Your limitless love in Christ. Build my trust and my passion. I take up my cross and follow...In Jesus' name…

Memory verse: Ephesians 2:6 “And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus.”

Verse of the Day: Jeremiah 17: 7 “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. 8 He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.”

Daily Reading: Joshua 7-9 Luke 1:21-38

Ask God First

In Joshua 9, the Israelites were tricked. A people called the Gibeonites knew they would be destroyed by Israel because their land was part of what God was giving to the Jews.

Joshua 9:3 “The people of Gibeon heard how Joshua had defeated Jericho and Ai. 4 So they decided to trick the Israelites.”

The put on old and nasty clothes and even carried old wine skins and molded bread and went to the Jews and told them they were from far away and wanted to join the Jews for what they had heard of their great God.

Joshua 9:14 “The men of Israel tasted the bread. But they did not ask the Lord what to do.”

This was the mistake. The Israelites were fooled and believed the lies.

What is in this for us?

The Jews tasted moldy bread. Why? If you can see something is wrong, why go any further? Even I know better than to taste moldy bread. But this is a sign of trusting one’s own judgment. Why do we do that? We sense something is a little shady but we go a little further?

We sense something is wrong but don’t ask God what to do?

Admit it or not, we all have done this-more than once or maybe we still do…

Yes, I do think it is the right move to ask God about any decision we are about to make-any decision.

James 1:17 “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.”

All the good comes from God. Everything else must come from the world and the enemy.

Just don’t do it. Don’t taste the mold of the world. The Holy Spirit is always there and within Him is the divine sense that He shares with us. Use it. Trust His perfection-not your own imperfection and certainly not the deception of the enemy’s world around you.

Ask God-He will answer.

...because He loves us…

Father in Heaven,

Your wisdom is above all else. Your kingdom is perfect. Forgive me for trusting my own judgment and the word of the unrighteous. Lead me away from self reliance.

Giver of all good and perfect gifts,

In the name of Christ Jesus,

Amen
