Ferocious God Of Peace
Tuesday, November 3, 2020 Good Morning, Lord V.O.D.: Romans 13:1 Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. M.O.M.: The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.—Romans 13:12 Today's reading: Jeremiah 32-33 Hebrews 1
Ferocious God Of Peace
Talk about a contradiction in terms, this is it: 'Our ferocious God of Peace'. Be patient while I explain, please.
The scripture speaks of God's might: “O LORD God of our fathers, are you not God in heaven? You rule over all the kingdoms of the nations. In your hand are power and might, so that none is able to withstand you.”” 2 Chronicles 20:6 “God stretches the northern sky over empty space and hangs the earth on nothing. He wraps the rain in his thick clouds, and the clouds don’t burst with the weight. He covers the face of the moon, shrouding it with his clouds. He created the horizon when he separated the waters: he set the boundary between day and night. The foundations of heaven tremble; they shudder at his rebuke. By his power the sea grew calm. By his skill he crushed the great sea monster. His Spirit made the heavens beautiful, and his power pierced the gliding serpent. These are just the beginning of all that he does, merely a whisper of his power. Who, then, can comprehend the thunder of his power?” Job 26:7-14
Our God is ferocious power. All the power that is in the cosmos. The power of millions of suns and countless 'black holes'(singularities). His voice spoke this all into existence. This is our God-the all powerful whose love endures forever.
Our God is peace and tranquility. He makes us lie down in green pastures, He leadeth me by the still waters. Psalm 23 Psalm 29:11 11 The LORD gives strength to his people; the LORD blesses his people with peace.
Two streams from the cable company-one stream without political ads and one with political ads. When a person votes early, that is sent to a data bank and that person receives only the stream with regular commercials. That would get everybody out to vote early and we would be done with it before election day. (I confess, this came from my hate-yes, hate-for political stuff of any kind on TV. That is my problem before God.)
The country is consumed by the lust for power and control. The serpent in the garden lusted for control over mankind and wound up on his belly for the rest of time. The humans wanted the power of the forbidden fruit and wound up in sin out of their perfect home. Where will this all end? In the dust...
Our God of ferocious power compressed all that power along with all His love and compressed it all down to the form of a man so He could walk among us. That is another example of ultimate power. It cannot be explained but it is a fact. Jesus was/is all that ferocious power with his love wrapped around the worst sinner and that could be any one of us. It does not matter because God's grace-the place where we do not get what we deserve but we get Jesus-God's grace covers us with the blood of Jesus.
After all the miracles in His three years of ministry and His showing what little of His power He could actually show without harming those around Him, Jesus said this: "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." John 14:27
After all this election mess is over, it will all start over in another 2 and a half years. The grind of this world in the dust never stops. Broken hearts and lives-broken people-there is an eternal cure for it all. The ferocious power of God in the form of His absolute loving forgiveness and restoration will cure but one heart at a time. That is how black sin is to God. All His power applied to one life at a time.
But what a cataclysmic blessing to each heart-what a cosmic shaking moment in each life is this moment of transformation for each of us. Then, each of us is filled with that awful/awesome/magnificent power in the form of His Holy Spirit of peace.
None of this makes sense to the world or can be explained but it is in us for our edification and growth and righteousness.
Now, practically, for you: if you really know Jesus and you are not at peace; if you are tied up in knots of fret and worry, God wants you to know that Jesus hung on the cross so this feeling of anxiety could be flashed out of your heart and soul by your confession to Him.
Which is hardest for God: the physical healing of a dying person or the removal of worry and fret from another? It is all a loving thought to God. "The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." James 5:16 That is not just someone praying for you-but also you praying for yourself. All of God's power lives in you in the Holy Spirit.
All of God's peace is yours. All of His ferocious power is focused on filling you with His complete peace.
...because He loves us...
Father in heaven, I confess; I am all you say I am. I have all you say I have. Forgive me my unbelief. I embrace Your peace. Awesome God of sweet peace! In the name of Jesus, Amen
