Good morning, Lord

Father in Heaven, I seek You first-the knowledge of Your kingdom and Your righteousness. Fill my consciousness constantly and complete Your joy in me as I take up my cross and follow...In Jesus' name…

Memory verse:Jeremiah 15:19 ESV

Therefore thus says the Lord: “If you return, I will restore you, and you shall stand before me. If you utter what is precious, and not what is worthless, you shall be as my mouth. They shall turn to you, but you shall not turn to them.”

Verse of the day:2 Corinthians 10:17-18

17 “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.” 18 For it is not the one who commends himself who is approved, but the one whom the Lord commends.

Daily readings: Psalm 97-99 Romans 16

Your Heart Is Made For God

The greatest commandment-Jesus said in Matthew 22:37 that the greatest commandment is to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”

Our hearts are made for God by God so we could love and trust Him. Our hearts are made to love God with all our loving energy. That energy comes from one place-the Holy Spirit of Truth that inhabits each of us in Christ Jesus.

The Holy Spirit enables us to really treasure God in Christ above all else which makes our heart ‘pure’ as Jesus spoke in Matthew 5:8: “Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God.”

When Jesus spoke Matthew 5:20 and said that our righteousness must exceed that of the scribes and Pharisees, he points to the impurity of their hearts. This impurity is anything that takes the place of God as our treasure-anything that lessens the degree of our treasuring God.

The measure of our purity is how much we treasure God in Christ above all else and this can only be real for us in the presence and power of the Holy Spirit.

This treasuring of Jesus comes with our new birth. This the call-the command(for our righteousness to be greater than the scribes and Pharisees)-be born again-get a new heart.

God demands it-God supplies it.

Here it is-it is an ongoing battle-Jesus said, “Apart from me, you can do nothing”(John 15:5).

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled”(Matthew 5:8).

Hunger and thirst is our sign of life-hunger and thirst compels us to ‘eat and drink’(disciplined following) and results in the purity of God’s command in Christ for our righteousness to be greater...striving for the narrow gate on this narrow path.

Tell God you want to hunger and thirst after Him more and more.

...because He loves you, He will do it...

Father in Heaven,

Teach me how best to praise you forever. Teach me about Your kingdom. Fill me with hunger and thirst for Your righteousness. Give me today what you know I need to obey. Forgive me for my laziness. Lead me away from lethargy in my spirit.

Maker of Heaven and earth,

In the name of Christ Jesus,

Amen
