Good morning, Lord

Father in Heaven, I seek You first-the knowledge of Your kingdom and Your righteousness. Fill my consciousness constantly and complete Your joy in me as I take up my cross and follow...In Jesus' name…

Memory verse: Joshua 1:9

9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Verse of the day- Hebrews 7:25

25 “Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.”

 Today’s reading:  2 Samuel 23-24 Luke 19:1-27

The Word of Life

Moses wrote: “Take to heart all the words by which I am warning you today, that you may command them to your children, that they may be careful to do all the words of this law. For it is no empty word for you, but your very life.” (Deuteronomy 32:46–47)

This is more encouragement for our life in the word of God. God tells us through Moses that we should ‘take heart’-to stop and take hold with all our being-’take to heart’-His words. For our children to listen to us(or all who hear and come after us) we cannot just carry the ‘scrolls’(the Bible) around in our hands-we must carry it in our hearts because it is our very life. The early church did not carry the latest version of the Bible around because there wasn’t one. But when they received the latest letter from Peter or Paul or James, they would treasure it and copy it and read it over and over so they could live by it and teach from it and give it away. It would not be long before they knew it by heart.

God’s word is our very life. It’s no empty collection of pretty words written from a poetic heart. I read some lines of poetry from Sir Walter Scott for my grandson and to my shock, he seemed to actually like it. I still read the classics, some, but they do not hold life itself. As beautifully written as some are, they are not ‘God breathed’.

2 Timothy 3:16 says, “16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness”.

Genesis 2:7 says, “Then the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.

I hear God saying to us that when we read His Holy Word that He continues to breathe life into us.

When we do not read His word, we do not breathe-we do not live-we walk away from life.

Breathe in and live-breathe in God’s word for life. It is not just an empty word-it is a river of life.

...because He loves us...He will do it…

Father in Heaven

Your name is life itself. I ask for Your kingdom understanding in my heart for this day. Forgive me for not listening with my heart to Your word. Lead me away from lifeless existence.

River of Life, Word of living,

In the name of Christ Jesus,

Amen
