When I Am Afraid

Monday, November 11, 2024

Good morning, Lord

Father in Heaven, I seek You first-Your peace-Your knowledge and discernment. Build my trust. I take up my cross and follow...In Jesus' name...

Verse of the Day: 1 John 2:15-16

15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world.

Memory verse: Psalm 42:2(New American Bible )

"My soul thirsts for God, the living God. When can I enter and see the face of God?"

Today's reading: Jeremiah 51-52 Hebrews 9

 Of The Lord

Ephesians 4:26 “In your anger do not sin...”

As we have said before, God does not tell us in this verse not to get angry. He made us-all of us-with all the emotions He saw fit to give us. God knew that our human nature would  have anger. The verse tells us to not lose control and sin when we become angry.

But what about other emotions? What about fear? There are many scriptures where God tells us not to fear but there are scores of verses that tell us to fear God-just put 'Bible verses on fearing God' in your search bar and see.

God never denies that fear exists. He wants us to know that in Him-in Christ-in the power of the Holy Spirit-we can live above the fear.

Psalm 56:3 (ESV)

3  "When I am afraid, I put my trust in you."

This is a habit that must be learned. The first doubt-the first sign of a problem in your faith about your salvation-you must switch to turning to God. He is our strength in any such time-any doubt.

This is the absolute importance of that secret place God has for each of us. We must know His assurance in that place and return each time we fear and doubt. The emotion we know-the emotion that God gives in His presence that the world cannot touch. This is the 'feeling' the enemy fights with all His strength to keep us from experiencing.

When we are afraid, we must immediately think of that feeling-that secret place-we must trust God for His freedom from fear and doubt. Done repeatedly, we can walk in this freedom that the Holy Spirit wants us to have constantly. This is the river-the river of life that flows from our lives(John 7:37-39). This is, also, what makes us a believable vessel of the Gospel of Christ.

"When I am afraid, I put my trust in You".

...because You love me...

Father in Heaven,

What Your name means is perfect peace and trust. Let me know all I can of Your kingdom peace and power. Give me today, the trust You want me to have-let me learn it. Lead me away from fear and doubt.

Great God of perfect assurance,

In the name of Christ Jesus,

Amen
