Trusting

Friday, November 15, 2024

Good morning, Lord

Father in Heaven, I seek You first-Your peace-Your knowledge and discernment. Build my trust. I take up my cross and follow...In Jesus' name...

Verse of the Day: Psalm 119:143

143 Trouble and anguish have found me out,

but your commandments are my delight.

Memory verse: Psalm 42:2(New American Bible )

"My soul thirsts for God, the living God. When can I enter and see the face of God?"

Today's reading: Ezekiel 3-4 Hebrews 11:20-40

Trusting

Have you read Hebrews, chapter 11? Maybe you have or not and some may have studied it extensively and some not at all but most have heard Hebrews 11 called 'the roll-call of faith'.

When David H. Stern translated His 'Complete Jewish Bible', he most always used the word 'trusting' for the word faith we see in most all other translations.

Why? Faith is a noun. It is a name for something that we do-not just something we have and the people mentioned in Hebrews 11 are people of actions and attitudes governed by what they did with their hearts-they trusted God for the promises He had made to them.

Hebrews 11 is not just the 'chapter of trust'.

Look at what it says about the folks who trusted God for their lives in verse 36,

"Others underwent the trials of being mocked and whipped, then chained and imprisoned...38...The world was not worthy of them!"

Our lives are mostly spent to be worthy of the world-to be accepted by it or cared for by it because of stored resources or paid obligations to the world.

We do not have to meet any condition to be accepted by God when we are 'trusting' in Christ, which means, the world is not worthy of us!

If we trust in Christ, we hear Hebrews 11 say this about us along with all those Giants of trust:

39 "All of these had their merit attested because of their trusting. Nevertheless, they did not receive what had been promised, 40 because God had planned something better that would involve us, so that only with us would they be brought to the goal."

You and I are included in Hebrews 11...trust in that...trust in Him who came to set us all free.

...because He loves us...

Father in Heaven,

You, oh God, are worthy of all our trust. We trust in Your promise of Your Kingdom. Give me Your bread to trust more and more today. Forgive my weak trust and lead me away from things that would weaken  my trust in You.

Most high and worthy God,

In the name of Christ Jesus,

Amen
