Good morning, Lord
Father in Heaven, I seek You first-the knowledge of Your kingdom and Your righteousness. Fill my consciousness constantly and complete Your joy in me as I take up my cross and follow...In Jesus' name…
Memory verse: Jeremiah 15:19 ESV
Therefore thus says the Lord: “If you return, I will restore you, and you shall stand before me. If you utter what is precious, and not what is worthless, you shall be as my mouth. They shall turn to you, but you shall not turn to them.”
Verse of the day: 1 John 4:16
16 “So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.”
Today’s reading: Proverbs 25-26 2 Corinthians 9
True Giving
Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Sell your possessions, and give to the needy. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. (Luke 12:32–34)
Jesus says for us to “...lay up treasures in Heaven... for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.”
“ Sell your possessions and give to the poor... provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail.”
The point is not to ‘get’ treasures in heaven, I believe-I believe that if or when we learn how to turn loose of our ’treasures’ on earth and learn to know what a treasure Jesus is, He will be our treasure in Heaven. After all, what really could be more exciting or more precious in heaven than Jesus Himself?
Laying up treasure in Heaven to me means that every step I take at getting closer to loving God with everything that I am-every step is another treasure.
If you are not excited about being with Jesus here, how do you expect to be excited about Him in Heaven? Yes, all will be different with the absence of sin but Jesus is what Heaven is all about. Revelation 21:23 says there will be no sun or moon or need of light because God the Father and the lamb(Jesus) will illuminate it all.
So, work on ‘money bags’ that do not get old but get stronger-work on your heart-ask God to work on your heart and give you, day by day, a capacity to love Him more and more. Our hearts and minds and souls are our money bags that hold all God has for us. Laying up treasures is increasing our capacity to love God in Christ.
Money is just money-what good is it when your body stops?
How great will your capacity be in Heaven to enjoy being there with God?
Ask God what He wants this to mean to you. Don’t be afraid to ask-don’t fear what God will say-if you do fear the answer or truthfully just don’t want to hear it…pray God changes your heart.
...because He loves us, He will do it…
Father in Heaven,
Create a heart in me that yearns to hallow Your name and looks forward to the coming kingdom as well as knowing Your kingdom in my heart. Give me the desire for You today that You want me to have. Forgive me for fearing to know what loving You fully means. Lead me away from evil.
Father of Truth,
In the name of Jesus,
Amen
