Today’s reading: Deuteronomy 19-21 Mark 13:21-37 

To Wait for God

What does it mean to wait for God? Learning to live our lives of worship as ‘living sacrifices’(Romans 12:1&2) seems most challenging and demanding to most of us. It might seem insurmountable or unattainable to some. So, I want us to look at this passage.

Isaiah 64:4 (ESV)

4  “From of old no one has heard

or perceived by the ear,

no eye has seen a God besides you,

who acts for those who wait for him.”

The first order in this sacrificial life comes in letting go of our ‘grip’ or our own power and learning how to ‘wait’ on God. What does that mean?

It means that the first thing we do is pray and put all our concerns before God. We have to put it down before God-let go and listen and wait for God to give us an answer and tell us to move.

1 Thessalonians 5:17 “...pray without ceasing,”

This may sound like review to some but we cannot be reminded enough to return to the basics and check up on our habits.

If prayer is not just a habit but a way of life for you then read patiently. But if you don’t have a constant ‘attitude’ of prayer, this is a time for you to realize that the ‘abundant life in Christ’ is realized in prayer.

Attitude-A a way of thinking or feeling about someone or something, which often influences a person's behavior. It can be positive, negative, or neutral and is shaped by experiences, beliefs, and emotions. (This is from the dictionary)

Biblically, an attitude of prayer is the way we think, rooted in the complete power and peace of the Holy Spirit. In prayer and by prayer, God builds our trust in Him and shapes our emotions.

Prayer is a constant exercise in discipline. It takes a mind ‘made up’. Isaiah 50:7, I think, says it best:

“But the Lord GOD helps me; therefore I have not been disgraced; therefore I have set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be put to shame.”

Read that over and over. Write it down. Pray on it.

Pray for it…

...because He loves us…

Father in Heaven,

Fill me with awe for You and who You are-all of You. Build my resolve to obey Your will. Forgive me my weaknesses for the world. Lead me away from not forgiving.

Father of all resolve,
