Good morning, Lord
Father in Heaven, I seek You first-the knowledge of Your kingdom and Your righteousness. Fill my consciousness constantly and complete Your joy in me as I take up my cross and follow...In Jesus' name…
Memory verse:Jeremiah 15:19 ESV
Therefore thus says the Lord: “If you return, I will restore you, and you shall stand before me. If you utter what is precious, and not what is worthless, you shall be as my mouth. They shall turn to you, but you shall not turn to them.”
Verse of the day: Psalm 119:114
114 You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in your word.
Readings:Psalm 57-59 Romans 4
The Watchword
“Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak” (Mark 14:38).
Jesus spoke these words in the garden of Gethsemane. This was in the darkest of times. Jesus knew it but the disciples went to sleep. They were about to find out just how dark.
When something tragic happens, no one is really ready.
Afterwords, we always say that it is a ‘sign of the times’-meaning this is just another sign that Jesus is coming soon and He is-but.
“As in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark . . . so will be the coming of the Son of Man. . . . Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming” (Matt. 24:38–39, 42).
We need to look at this passage in a different light. We see this and some think this points to the sin that mankind was living in and it is but think of this:
What is more important to physical life than eating and drinking and marrying? We must eat and drink to live. We must marry(under God’s righteous law) to procreate. What we see here is a description of normal, everyday life-lived in sin, yes, but a prosperous life-this is not describing a tragic lifestyle.
Jesus is telling us that normal life was going on when the flood came.
Things are always going to be perilous. The point is to be aware-be vigilant all the time-in good times and in bad.
Realize the good days-enjoy the good days-but be aware it was during a good day that Noah went into the ark and it began to rain…
The watchword is ‘watch’.
How do we stay vigilant? We remain conscious of God’s Spirit of Truth in our hearts all the time-
Tell God this is where you want to be.
...because He loves us...He will do it…
Father in Heaven.
Hallowed be Your Holy name. Your kingdom come and Your will be done. Give me what I need today to follow You. Forgive me for not paying attention. Lead me away from laziness.
Awesome and powerful God,
In the name of Christ Jesus,
Amen
