Therefore thus says the Lord: “If you return, I will restore you, and you shall stand before me. If you utter what is precious, and not what is worthless, you shall be as my mouth. They shall turn to you, but you shall not turn to them.”

13 “Follow the pattern of the sound words that you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. 14 By the Holy Spirit who dwells within us, guard the good deposit entrusted to you.”

The Proof Is In The Living

We have lived a life of hearing the ‘proof is in the pudding’. This simply means that the proof of the ‘pudding’ is in the taste.

Jesus said, “Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).

Jesus says to His followers to let our ‘proof’(the glory given to our Father in Heaven) be brought about by the way we live. He does not say, “if you let your light shine, God ‘will’ become your Father…” In Christ, God is already our Father.

In John 15:8 Jesus says, “By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples.”

From the previous verse, we can see this verse says that the ‘proof’ we are His disciples are in the fruit that brings God glory.

“Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven” (Matt. 5:44–45). I believe this does not say that to become a son(or daughter) of God we must first love our enemies-I believe Jesus tells us loving our enemies is proof we ‘are’ sons of God. I believe that loving our enemies is impossible without the love of God.

Loving our enemies shows we are His by showing the character of Jesus because we are sons of God.

If someone who is not a son of God does good works, they get the glory for themselves-if we do the good works because of God in us, He gets the glory.

The light we shine is the Father’s light within us.

So how do we love our enemies? Being sons of God has set us free from anxiety. If Jesus is our treasure, He is our honor and He is our security and these are not lost even if we lose everything in this life. Jesus is our life now and forever.

If you are having trouble with this last statement, tell God and tell Him you want your heart to be right with Him.

Father in Heaven,

I want to treasure Your name and treasure Your kingdom and I want to treasure doing Your will. Give me today the desire to dig deeper and know You better. Forgive me for being afraid-give me courage. Lead me away from evil.
