The Old Testament And Us

Wednesday, August 7, 2024

Good morning, Lord

Verse of the Day:   Romans 15:4 (ESV)

4 "For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope."

Memory verse: Psalm 90:14

14 Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.

Today's reading: Psalm 74-76 Romans 9:16-33

The Old Testament and Us

The question comes up to us from the enemy and attempts to steal our hope:

"What good is the old testament in my daily living-why do we need stuff written before Christ?"

Paul addressed it to the Romans who, of course, like us-not born into the Jewish faith but still in God's family in Christ:

The Old Testament is for our hope and perseverance.

2 Corinthians 1:20 (ESV)

20 "For all the promises of God find their Yes in him(Christ). That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory."

One of the most important things for me is that I must remember that Jesus was there the entire time-as He is with us now.

John 1:1-4,14

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning.3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.

14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth."

The Holy Spirit was there as He is here...

Genesis 1:2 ...And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters...

1 Samuel 16:13 ...And the Spirit of the Lord rushed upon David from that day forward.

Ezekiel 11:5 ...And the Spirit of the Lord fell upon me.

Haggai 2:5 ...My Spirit remains in your midst. Fear not.

The Word of God is breathed by Him(2 Timothy 3:16) and God had all the Old Testament recorded for all time-that means for all of us. Don't fight it-ask God what's in it for you-for today-

"Give us this day our daily bread"...the Old Testament, just like the New Testament is in the 'Bread'.

...because He loves us...

Father in Heaven,

Let me show the magnificence of Your name. Help me see the glory of Your kingdom today. Give me Your bread for today and forgive me my negativity. Let me treasure all of Your Holy Scripture.

Great God of joy,

In the name of Christ Jesus,

Amen
