Good morning, Lord

Father in Heaven, I seek You first-the knowledge of Your kingdom and Your righteousness. Fill my consciousness constantly and complete Your joy in me as I take up my cross and follow...In Jesus' name…

Memory verse: Jeremiah 15:19 ESV

Therefore thus says the Lord: “If you return, I will restore you, and you shall stand before me. If you utter what is precious, and not what is worthless, you shall be as my mouth. They shall turn to you, but you shall not turn to them.”

Verse of the day: 1 Peter 3:8 “Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind.”

Today’s reading:  Proverbs 19-21 2 Corinthians 7

The Measure of a Gift

And a poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which make a penny. And he called his disciples to him and said to them, “Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the offering box. For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.” (Mark 12:41–44)

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matthew 6:21)

The poor widow put in all she had to live on. She gave all she had. But the amount of the gift is not the point. The measure is the sacrifice. This ‘measure’ was her ‘treasure’. Her treasure was the Lord God.

She honored God so much that she gave all she had.

So how to we get to the place of the widow-truly and honestly?

Hallowed be thy name” are words that are not just to be repeated to begin the model prayer that Jesus gave us. These words begin the prayer because this is foremost in the mind of Jesus which means they are to be foremost in our minds. How we treasure all that God’s name is tells us how deep our faith is.

God’s name means our salvation in Christ. God’s name means eternity. God’s name means truth and honor and divine humility-inexplicable peace, strength, power. God’s name should mean everything to us just as it meant to the widow who gave all.

The widow’s sacrifice meant that she found her ‘rest’, her peace and security, no where else but in God.

Where is your, our, security? Truly? Where is it?

The widow was truly worshiping. She gave all.

Jesus is telling us that a life of true worship is giving all we have to our true treasure-not the amount of the gift but of the sacrifice-not how much money but how much heart.

No, this is not about giving money-this is about living our lives in sacrificial worship of God in Christ.(Romans 12:1,2).

The name of God must be held highest in our hearts and minds by consciously honoring Him-staying awake to the Holy Spirit-not out of some empty obligation but in love.

Pray that God gives you the desire to honor Him with all your heart so you can love living a sacrificial life.

...because He loves you, He will do it…

Father in Heaven,

Hallowed be thy name. Your kingdom come, Your will be done in my heart as it is in Heaven. Give me what You know I need today. Forgive me as I learn to forgive. Lead me away from temptation and evil.

Holy and loving God,

In the name of Christ Jesus,

Amen
