The Good Ole Days

Good morning, Lord
Father in Heaven, open my heart and mind, Holy Spirit. Fill my consciousness and complete Your joy in me as I take up my cross and follow...In Jesus' name…
Memory verse: 1 John 1:8–9
8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the
truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and
just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness.
Verse of the day: Joel 2:23 “Rejoice in the Lord your God, for he has given you the autumn rains in righteousness. He sends you abundant showers, both autumn and spring rains, as before”.
Today’s reading: Ecclesiastes 7-9 2 Corinthians 13
The Good Ole Days
Ecclesiastes 7:10 “Don’t ask, “Why were things better in the old days than they are now?” It isn’t wisdom that leads you to ask this!”
“Back in the day…”
There is nothing wrong with remembering times of joy and success. But if things seem not to be as good as one past time, it is because we are centered on the wrong ‘things’.
Success in God’s kingdom is never and was never money and stuff.
God’s kingdom is all about today-right now-and how intimate we are with God in Christ Jesus. This governs everything in our lives. We may have very little by the world’s standards but if we have the relationship God yearns for us all to have with Him, we have a full heart-even when our bodies fail, God will sustain us.
How close were you with God back in the ‘good ole days’? Were you closer than now? If that is what you feel, it is because you have moved away from God’s reality for you.
We all must meet with God and pray as King David did,
“Show me what is wrong in my heart that I have missed”(Psalm 139:23&24).
Personally, I leave things out-I omit-the sin of omission is still a sin and as bad as any.
Do you really want things as they once were?
It is not bad to remember the good times-blessings of old.
But God mercies are new every morning and at His right hand are ‘pleasures forevermore’(Psalm 16:11).
Our best days are the ones we are the closets to God and God’s message to us is that it gets better everyday-no matter what the world or our bodies or our government throws at us. Yes, we will have ups and downs but as long as we return to Him, we will know His freedom and peace and rest and joy.
This is absolute. God does not change. He changes us.
Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
Thank God for the good times and ask Him to show you what you need for a better day now.
...because He loves you, He will do it…
Father in Heaven,
Your name is better than any day I have known. I want to know more of Your kingdom. Let me feel Your power and peace for today. Forgive me for wandering and not listening. Lead me away from evil.
Tender and Gentle and awesome Lord,
In the name of Christ Jesus,
Amen
