Good morning, Lord

Father in Heaven, load me with desire to seek You first-the knowledge of Your kingdom and Your righteousness. Hold my attention constantly and complete Your joy in me as I take up my cross and follow...In Jesus' name…

Memory verse: 1 John 1:8–9

8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the

truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all

unrighteousness.

Verse of the day- Ephesians 5:25-26

25  “Husbands, love your wives, in the same way as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, by cleansing her with the washing of water in connection with the Word.”

Today’s reading: Job 1-2 Acts 7:22-43

Breadth And Depth-Part 2

The Fly Over

Being a disciplined Bible reader is not easy for many of us. This is the ‘breadth’ part. How do we read the Bible from one end to the other and find time to study for ‘depth’. I found a plan for reading the Bible through in a year on the ‘Bible Gateway’ site. Navigators has a good plan, also.

But many make time out to be a problem. Yesterday we saw that we all have time in the 3 plus hours we spend on the our devices. The truth is we make time for what is most important to us. We have the time so use yours to God’s glory-or not.

I have flown a few times and once over what I was told was orange groves. I love oranges and they are healthy to eat. But from 37,000 feet they just look pretty. But I picked oranges once in January in Mission, Texas. There is nothing like it-a fresh orange off the tree. There was a ‘wet freeze’ and the fruit had a thin sheet of ice. Ice cold orange off the tree-what a blessing!

The overhead sight was all at once-the breadth-the expanse of the groves was something to see but the ‘depth’ of the experience of eating the fruit off the tree was completely different.

I read the Bible through in a year and have for some 8 or nine years now-this is the ‘fly-over’-the breadth. Afterwords-study for depth. I travel to the grove, be told where to start, must climb the ladder carrying my ‘bag’ and pick the fruit and climb back down the ladder then empty my bag in the cart. Then I can find an orange to peel and eat.

All of this must become habit. It must become a way of life. Reading the Bible and having a ‘devotional time’ is breadth and depth.

It takes me an average of 20 minutes a day to read through the Bible in a year. Prayer and study will take longer so disciplined scheduling has to be learned and fitted for your life.

To seek God with all we are takes a lot of discipline and human nature and the enemy will fight against our becoming the ‘disciple’ God has planned for us to be.

Pray much about your breadth and depth in seeking God. Tell God how you feel and tell Him you want desire and will to know Him more.

...because He loves us, He will do it…

Father in Heaven,

Let Your glory keep my attention on Your things of the kingdom. My desire is weak, forgive me for shallow seeking.

Lead me away from natural desires.

Father of light and truth,

In the name of Christ Jesus,

Amen
