Good morning, Lord

Father in Heaven, I seek You first-the knowledge of Your kingdom and Your righteousness. Fill my consciousness constantly and complete Your joy in me as I take up my cross and follow...In Jesus' name…

Memory verse: Joshua 1:9

9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Verse of the day-2 Timothy 1:9

9 “...who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began,”

Today’s reading: Deuteronomy 7-9 Mark 11:19-33

The Fire of God

Hebrews 12:29 says, “...for our God is a consuming fire.”

It occurred to me that I have always used this verse to describe what God does in our hearts when we seek Him a we should, Matthew 6:33. I do believe that when we surrender to God and take up our ‘cross’ everyday that God’s righteous life will consume us and fill us with His strength and joy.

Hebrews 12:29 is a reference to Deuteronomy 4:24: For the Lord your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.

The verse just before that says, “...let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe.”

The preceding part of the chapter is about honoring God : just listen:

22 But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, 23 to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the Judge of all, to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, 24 to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.

25 See to it that you do not refuse him who speaks. If they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, how much less will we, if we turn away from him who warns us from heaven? 26 At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, “Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.”

Our ideas of worship will always fall short until we stand before God. But until we are there, we need remember that our God is the same God of the Old Testament who consumed His enemies with fire and still will.

Safe, though we are in Christ Jesus, we must humble ourselves before Him-God must become so real to us that we really do stand in awe of Him.

Tell God you want to know Him this way so as to honor His name as He desires.

...because He loves you, He will do it…

Father in Heaven,

Help me really stand in awe of Your name and Your kingdom. Give me today a greater grasp of how great you are. Forgive me for not seeking deeper. Lead me away from evil.

Almighty and awesome Father,

In the name of Christ Jesus,

Amen
