Good morning, Lord
Father in Heaven, I seek You first-the knowledge of Your kingdom and Your righteousness. Fill my consciousness constantly and complete Your joy in me as I take up my cross and follow...In Jesus' name…
Memory verse: Jeremiah 15:19 ESV
Therefore thus says the Lord: “If you return, I will restore you, and you shall stand before me. If you utter what is precious, and not what is worthless, you shall be as my mouth. They shall turn to you, but you shall not turn to them.”
Verse of the day: Psalm 138:8
8 “The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands.”
Today’s Reading: Job 14-16 Acts 9:22-43
The ‘Essence’ of Worship
The word ‘essence’ has always sounded a little ‘out there’ or as my Mom used to say, ‘highfalootin’. You know, one of those words folks used for something they could not really explain.
Webster’s dictionary says, “ESSENCE is the permanent as contrasted with the accidental element of being.”
That means little to a hillbilly like me. So, Essence is the most important qualities that makes something what it is.
What is the essence of worship? What makes worship of God in Christ real? What do we need to know and do in worship?
Jesus said that real worship is in spirit and in truth(John 4:24).
Truth of God in Christ comes from the Holy scripture and the counsel of the Holy Spirit(John 14:26-28). We also see and know God’s handiwork around us. Knowing all this does not make worship happen.
Worship happens when all we know about God in Christ results in real feelings or affections for God. The Holy Spirit brings words and actions that flow from our spirit that treasures God for who He really is. This is worship in truth and in spirit.
Knowing God by the study of Holy scripture, the wisdom and counsel of the Holy Spirit, and our heart-our spirit treasuring and loving God-this results in a life lived in gratitude and praise to God.
Paul already said this: “12 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and reasonable worship.” Romans 12:1,2
Reasonable worship? The world says this is not reasonable-but in our spirit by the Holy Spirit, living a life of worship is the only reasonable way to live.
Tell God you want this for your life-that you want this to be your reasonable worshiping life.
...because he loves us...He will do it…
Father in Heaven,
I want my life to worship Your name in awe of Your kingdom. Give me today what I need to live this life in Your worship. Forgive me for not digging deep enough and treasuring You more. Lead me away from evil.
Great and mighty God of all love and peace,
In the name of Jesus ,
Amen
