Today's reading: Psalm 100-102 1 Corinthians 1
The Cause Behind Sin
It happened like this.
(From 2 Samuel 11-13) David stayed home instead of going to battle with his troops as he should have. He committed adultery with Bathsheba and conceived a child. He sent her husband to the front and gave orders to leave him at the front so he would be killed. Nathan, the prophet confronted him with his sin and told David that the child would die because of the sin.
The child died. David went to worship.
At some point after Nathan had confronted him, David wrote Psalm 51 and says these things:
(1) God, in your grace, have mercy on me;
in your great compassion, blot out my crimes.
(3) For I know my crimes,
my sin confronts me all the time.
(6) Still, you want truth in the inner person;
so make me know wisdom in my inmost heart.
(10) Create in me a clean heart, God;
renew in me a resolute spirit.
Yes, David did go to worship after the child died but that is in the wrong order.
If he had worshipped after he saw Bathsheba and lusted(the sin that started this whole thing) instead of falling to the temptation-if he had taken the temptation captive(2 Corinthians 10:5 ►"We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.") he could have saved himself and others a great many pains.
David was a great king after God's own heart(Acts 13:22). This tells us that if it happened to David it can happen to us. This is why it is so very important for us to learn to worship God with every living breath-to be a living sacrifice(Romans 12:1,2).
In our hearts and minds, we must learn that it is God first-His kingdom and His righteousness above all else. Our first thought of the day. Our filter for every sight and every word of every conversation-our every move.
...because He loves us...
Father in Heaven,
Mighty God, worker of all true miracles, I ask for a vision of Your kingdom, an image of Christ, Your face-open my eyes. Give me Your bread for me today and forgive the sin that is before me and lead me away from this evil.
My Lord and my God,
In the name of Christ Jesus,
Amen
