Teach us to Pray #5

Forgive Us

We have spoken lately about how we alway have sin referring to 1 John 1:8 "If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us."

Just a few verses after His disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray in John 1:13, Jesus says:" If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!"

Jesus calls His disciples 'evil'. God had this recorded to keep us always aware of our own sin. Jesus did not mean His own disciples had lost their salvation in Him-He had just given them the Lord's prayer.

We still have-will always have- a sinful, human nature.

This lets us know that no matter how holy we think we may be-we still must come before the throne of God as sinful creatures-as sinners.

Come humbly before the throne of Grace.

Hebrews 4:16 says to come boldly before the throne of grace.

Yes, come with great confidence before God's throne knowing that no matter how great your sin is God's mercy is greater and will forgive you.

Yes, come boldly repenting of your sin and then ask God what you will.

Bold humility has no demands-it has only humility. Once we have repented of our sins, Jesus says for us to ask what we will-because in humility we will ask for His will to be done and not ours.

Our souls have been born of the Spirit of God and God sees us in Christ as perfect. Our human nature-heart and mind will never be perfect and will always need to live in a humble air of repentance.

Lord God, Teach us how to see ourselves without reservation-as the sinful creatures we are saved by Your unstoppable grace-fighting to love You more with all we have-learning more of prayer all the time to Your praise and Glory in Christ Jesus.

...because He loves us...

Father In Heaven,

Forgive me my ugly sin. Teach me how to live and pray humbly to Your praise forever,

Majestic and moving God

In the name of Christ Jesus,

Amen
