Good morning, Lord

Verse of the Day:  Ecclesiastes 8:12 ►"... I know that it will be well with those who fear God, who are reverent before him."

Memory verse: Psalm 90:14 Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.

Today's reading:   EZRA 9-10 ACTS 1

Teach us to Pray #4

This Day-Not Tomorrow

Luke 11:3-"Give us this day our daily bread."

We may have heard it several times in our lives but we need to pray for our daily bread and pray for it everyday. This is an old testament test from the Lord.

Exodus 16:4 ►Then the LORD said to Moses, “I will rain down bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day. In this way I will test them and see whether they will follow my instructions.

The Lord tested the Israelites to see if they would follow His instructions. They could gather just enough manna for that day-each day.

God wants us to ask for bread enough for today-not tomorrow.

Matthew 6: 34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

Matthew 6:34 "So don’t worry about tomorrow."

Yes, I know, we have work in this world that must be planned and budgeted but that is not what Jesus is talking about. God wants us in a place where we depend totally on Him for everything. In praying, "Give us this day...", we are declaring our dependence on Him and vowing to live for Him today-not tomorrow-not next week and month-

God is teaching us to depend on Him one day at a time and not waste the daily grace for now by worrying about tomorrow. Yes, waste...

Worry is a waste of grace. Worrying about tomorrow wastes precious time in present grace for God's work today.

When I finish this, I will work to finish Sunday's sermon. I will deliver that message in God's future grace but will finish it in the grace God has given me for His work today.

We all have work to do for today. Did you declare your total dependence on Him by asking for all the bread-the grace for everything for today? Stop and do that. God will not disappoint-never does-if we are obedient in this day.

...because He loves us...

Father in Heaven,

Hallowed be Your name. Teach me to depend on Your daily provision-Your grace for today. Forgive my worry about tomorrow. I know You will provide.

Gracious and loving Father,

In the name of Christ Jesus,

Amen
