Simple Reminder
They say we remember in black and white and not color. That might be true with those of us who grew up with old black and white photos from our past families-but I remember in color-do you?
I remember the folks who were kind to me as I was growing-with much fondness, I remember them in color. But there are those who do not bring such pleasant memories. My first Sunday school teacher was a sweet and patient lady. My first-grade teacher was just harsh-whether she was or not-that is how I remember her.
What had the most influence in your present behavior? It is now, as much as ever, a choice-to be positively or negatively affected by early life influences. We allow these influences to mold us into a person folks want to see coming or someone who causes them to duck and run.
Paul knew all of this and that is one reason God had him write what he did in:
Philippians 2:1 Think about what we have in Christ: the encouragement he has brought us, the comfort of his love, our sharing in his Spirit, and the mercy and kindness he has shown us. If you enjoy these blessings, 2 then do what will make my joy complete: Agree with each other, and show your love for each other. Be united in your goals and in the way you think. 3 In whatever you do, don’t let selfishness or pride be your guide. Be humble, and honor others more than yourselves. 4 Don’t be interested only in your own life, but care about the lives of others too.(ERV)
God puts reminders all through the Bible for us concerning our relationship to others. These show us how very important it is to God's heart that we get along and how great our choices are concerning loving others as ourselves.
What motivates us-in humility? Do we really honor others more than ourselves or do we pretend for appearance' sake. Are we truthful with ourselves? Do we care enough to face God with the truth and ask Him to give us the desire for change?
Paul reminds us to look inward and choose. Will we acknowledge or ignore this reminder?
Simple truth before our loving Father...
...because He loves us...
Father in Heaven,
Forgive me my lax attitude to Your truth. Plant in me the desire to face the truth in my heart and do it to Your face.
Merciful and loving Father,
In the name of Christ Jesus
Amen
