Good morning, Lord

Father in Heaven, I seek You first-the knowledge of Your kingdom and Your righteousness. Fill my consciousness constantly and complete Your joy in me as I take up my cross and follow...In Jesus' name…

Memory verse: Joshua 1:9

9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Verse of the day-1 Peter 2:24

24 “He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.”

 Today’s reading: 1 Samuel 17-18 Luke 11:1-28

Shame

As a follower of Christ Jesus-a born of the Spirit believer-shame is not always a bad thing. Paul wrote this in Romans 6:20–21:

When you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. But what fruit were you getting at that time from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.”

When our hearts become the Temple of the Holy Spirit(1 Corinthians 6:19,20), we know the Lord has forgiven us our past sins but looking back on them, we feel shame. Dwelling on past sin that is forgiven is detrimental to our growth but our hearts will always be sensitive to sin of the past. We must move past getting ‘bogged’ down in this shame and listen to Romans 8:1

There is, therefore, no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”

There is a place for ‘good’ shame in the scripture.

2 Thessalonians 3:14 (ESV)

14 “If anyone does not obey what we say in this letter, take note of that person, and have nothing to do with him, that he may be ashamed.”

God uses shame to bring nonbelievers into the light as well as believers who are going through times of rebellion and sin.

Well-placed shame is shame felt in anything that dishonors God no matter how strong or wise or right it makes you look.

So what is this about?

Growing in Christ means we recognize sin and turn away from it. It also means we leave sin behind and although we once did shameful things, Christ has completely removed all spiritual harm from past sin and gives us all we need to overcome present and future sin.

Don’t hang on to sin and let it keep you down. That is what the enemy wants. Carrying shame means we can put it down-in Christ, we can let go of shame for good. God never brings up old sin because He has chosen to forget it(Isaiah 43:25).

The enemy will always try to keep us full of shame by bringing up the past.

Resist him and he will run(James 4:7).

Jesus came to set us free(Luke 4:18)

Tell God you are sorry for letting past, forgiven, sin keep you down and that you want to live in His freedom.

...because He loves you, He will do it…

Father in Heaven,

Teach me how to lift up your name in all I do especially in my obedience in Your kingdom. Give me what I need today and the great desire to use it. Forgive me for getting locked into shame. Lead me away from this evil.

Great and forgiving Father,

In the name of Christ Jesus,

Amen
