Good morning, Lord

Father in Heaven, I seek You first-the knowledge of Your kingdom and Your righteousness. Fill my consciousness constantly and complete Your joy in me as I take up my cross and follow...In Jesus' name…

Memory verse: Jeremiah 15:19 ESV

Therefore thus says the Lord: “If you return, I will restore you, and you shall stand before me. If you utter what is precious, and not what is worthless, you shall be as my mouth. They shall turn to you, but you shall not turn to them.”

Verse of the day: Matthew 16:25

25 “For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.”

Today’s Reading: 8-10 Acts 8:26-40

More On Self Love And discipline

Yesterday, we talked about loving ourselves and that it is a command from both Old Testament and New Testament.(Leviticus 19:18;Matthew 22:37-39). We must love our neighbors the way we love ourselves.

So how do we love self that is so prone to sin and so dependent on God’s sustaining grace?

To begin with, our ‘old self’ the old man,(Ephesians 4:22-24-22 “that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, 23 and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, 24 and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.”), is not born of the Spirit of God.

This seems impossible-to separate the two. We must live in this body with the old self. But we have the ‘new man(or woman) created according to God that we must ‘put on’ while the old self continues to grow corrupt.

The enemy will tell all of us that this will tear us apart-but with God, nothing is impossible-especially when the scripture-God breathed-tells us to do it.

Our new self is born of the Spirit(John 3:6) and will be grown and supported by the Holy Spirit if we walk in the Spirit(Galatians 5:16 “I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.” )

Philippians 4…6Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

There it is. The only way to make sense of this conundrum is to obey what God says-don’t let this stress you out-but pray and ask-with gratitude-God already knows what you are going through. He wants us to see what we need and bring it to Him.

We are not just sinners saved by grace. Along with that we are a new creation-carrying our old baggage-but we do not have to live spiritually in that old baggage. We are commanded to come out.

The self we must love is the self that is born of the Spirit of God and destined to live with Him forever.

Tell the Lord you long to live in the Spirit-tell Him the truth. We have a lot to learn about loving the new self that God has made us. Tell Him you want to know how to live in your new self to glorify Him. Tell Him…

...because He loves us...He will do it…

Father in Heaven,

Hallowed be Your name in Your kingdom and in my heart. Forgive me for listening to the lies of the enemy. Show me how to love and yearn for the person You have made me to be. Lead me away from evil.

My God who has recreated me,

In the name of Christ Jesus,

Amen
